This week in Reading:  This week we are reading a portion of The Diary of Anne Frank. I have discussed the basics with the kids, but I feel that it is up to the parents to decide how much to actually tell the children about this horrible time in history. Please discuss this topic with your kids at the level you feel is appropriate.

Spelling and Vocabulary for 3/25 – 3/29

Spelling: happy, stormy, heavy, dirty, frosty, hungry, mighty, naughty, angry, windy, merry, bumpy, crazy, thirsty, speedy, grouchy, stingy, sturdy, steady, clumsy

Vocabulary:

concentration camps- a guarded and fenced camp for prisoners of war.

confide- to discuss  private thoughts;  to tell secrets.

stifled- suffocated or smothered.

quarters- a living space.

rations- a limited share.

Spelling: drag, drip, star, thin, knot, quit, snap, scar, knit, plug, tug, mop, rip, chop, hiss, shopping, sobbing, clapping, petting, begged

Vocabulary:

Tidal- having to do with the rise and fall of the sea.

Wreckage- the remains of something that has been destroyed.

Unconscious- not being physically or mentally aware of what’s happening.

Sorrowfully- in a way that shows grief or sadness.

Unfortunate- unlucky.
