Jog-a-Thon

Our Wednesday Jog-a-Thon was a great deal of fun.  We have a whole class full of enthusiastic runners.  We all ran for a full ten minutes and nearly half  the class wanted to keep going!  We were cheered on and misted by parents and big kids. They even made a tunnel for us to run through.  The full set of the photos will be uploaded to Shutterfly shortly.  You won’t want to miss those pics!

So far our class has raised nearly $200! That’s very impressive, I’d say. But don’t feel left out if you forgot to turn in your envelope.  There is still time to collect pledges and turn them.

Jog-A-Thon!

It’s time for our annual Jog-a-Thon! This is a fundraiser where students participate in earning money to pay for special programs at school. Please help your child gather pledges from family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors for this event. (Hint: Pledging a flat rate amount is much easier to keep track of, rather than pledging by lap.Write checks to “Carroll Elementary PTA) We will be jogging this Wednesday from 12:00 noon – 12:15 PM. Please make sure your student wears shoes and clothing suitable for jogging that day. The Carroll PTA welcomes all parents who would like to help supervise this event. Please return Pledge Envelopes this week.

Shutterfly Links

Check out the tabs above marked Photoblog and Volunteers. Both tabs will take you to a link to our class Shutterfly site. I have updated my Shutterfly account to cover activities and volunteer needs for the first trimester, including dates on the Shutterfly calendar. I know I had spoken at Orientation of using a different website for various needs, but I decided to keep it all in one place. I hope you find it simple and efficient to use. Please let me know how it goes for you.

Meet Poppa Jerry and Gramma Anne

It was a special treat to enjoy the company of Poppa Jerry and Gramma Anne in our classroom last week. Guess what? They are my very own parents! They were visiting from Michigan (barely north of Toldedo, Ohio) and I invited them to spend a few afternoons with us. They sang and danced with us, read stories, played with playdough, and helped us cut and count. It was delightful for everyone to have such child experts help us start the year off. Poppa Jerry and Gramma Anne raised five children and now have 25 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. That’s pretty impressive, don’t you agree?IMG_7126

GOFUNDME!

download
If you haven’t logged on and used Lexia with your student, you may not know what a tremendous learning tool it is. We have used it a Carroll for a couple of years, but it is no longer a free resource. The PTA has given Mr. Hauder a generous sum to offset the cost, but we need quite a bit more. Here’s how you can help: donate to our gofundme campaign! And please send this link (http://www.gofundme.com/v5kdf7s) out to your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, acquaintances, dentist, insurance agent…. You get the idea. Let’s make this happen for our kiddos!

Getting Ready for First Grade

In order to set your children up for a smooth transition to first grade, I have planned a few events:

Homework will now be provided on Friday and due on the following Friday.

We will have lunch in the cafeteria on Friday, June 12th at 10:40 AM. The cost is $2.50. Send it in an envelope with your child’s name on it. Please read over the green information page that was sent home last week and help your child plan their meal choices in advance. (It was also emailed to you.) Our time in the MP room is very limited.

We will visit a first grade classroom and bathroom in June. We will also use the big playground structure and practice the rules. If you would like to join us, please respond to this post.

Don’t forget that our promotion ceremony will be on Thursday, June 25th from 9:00 – 10:00 AM.

Memory Books

Thanks in major part to Mrs. Engel-Larot (Anika’s Mom) there will be a lovely Kindergarten Memory book for every student at the end of the school year. A few families have not yet provided a donation ($7.00) to cover the cost of materials. I have not sent a reminder in quite a while. Please send your donations this week.

We are in need of a parent who can take a special photo of each student to include in the Memory Books. I have the props and camera, I just need a helper. Let me know if it will be you!

Thank You!

Last Friday was made extra special when Mr. Gonzalez (Samiyah’s Dad) spent the morning with us. Everyone in our class had an absolutely wonderful opportunity for easel painting because of his willingness to get a bit messy with us. The paintings are hanging on the wall for all to enjoy. Painting at the easel is much more than a chance to smear some colors around. There are many important developmental skills at work for young learners. We would dearly LOVE to do it again, but who will volunteer to help? Please respond!easel

Book Fair

bookfairMiss June is still in need of some parent volunteers to help with the Book Fair next week. Contact her if you are able to help. Even a half-hour at dismissal time would be greatly appreciated. Call the school office at 714-0106 or email Miss June directly: skasemch@egusd.net

Our turn to view the Book Fair and purchase items will be on Tuesday from 10:30 – 11:00 AM. It would be wonderful to have some extra help at that time. If your child will be buying a book, remember to add 8% sales tax to purchase total.

Mark Your Calendar
