Open House Report

This week we had Open House.  We made volcanoes and amber.  We made the volcano out of Rice Krispy treats and used fruit roll-ups for the lava.  We made the amber out of orange jello and gummy worms or an octopus.  We had to introduced our parents to Mrs. Petuya.  We used Aurasma to do our welcome for our parents.  We also used this app to tell about what we learned.  All in all, Open House was a fun evening for our parents and classmates.  When is your Open House?  And what do you do?

Our Trip to FHS

Last week we had a field trip to Franklin High School.  We went to see The Wizard of Oz play. It took us a mile to walk there.  Our favorite part was the Munchkins’ song, “The Wicked Witch is Dead.”  All in all, it was a very fun day.  Have you ever seen a play before?

Open House on April 1st!

We have been very busy learners this trimester and are excited to show off our work on Tuesday, April 1st.  We hope you are able to stop by for a  tour of our room. Our door will be open from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.  We have arranged for a special feature for this event.  If you have an iPhone or iPad, download “Aurasma”, a free app, and bring the device with you.  You will be amazed! You’ll have to wait until Tuesday to find out what we have planned. 😀

Save the Date!

Our second trimester Open House will be held on Tuesday, April 1st from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM.  The students and I truly enjoyed hosting our first trimester Open House. (Did you ever view the photos on our Shutterfly link? You still can. Just email me if you forgot the password.)  We are very excited for the next opportunity to show off our hard work. I hope you are able to make plans to be there.

Mrs. Flohr is Retiring!

I am sad to say that one of the most important people on our campus is retiring next week, Mrs. Lori Flohr, our school secretary.  Since we can’t stop it from happening, we can at least send her off with some love.
Second Grade will be “showering her with flowers” on Monday morning.  Please come to school with any sort of flowers to celebrate the wonderful woman she is.  Garden flowers, silk flowers, paper flowers, drawings of flowers…all will make the moment more memorable.

It’s Been an Amazing Year!

I can scarcely believe our year together is ending this week.  It has been my joy and privilege to have spent the year with such a clever, creative, and kind group of children.  Every day there was a new challenge to tackle and the students learned to do more than they thought they could.  It is so rewarding to see them learn and grow and achieve.  Most of all I am humbled by their willingness to accept everyone and find ways to use each other’s strengths in whatever the assigned task.   I will remember this year with joy in my heart.  Thank you for the opportunity to have been your teacher.

Joyfully,

Mrs. Petuya
