What are some goals you would like to reach? Successful people always have goals they are working towards. When they reach their goals, they make new ones to obtain. Goals can be short-term, or long-term. What is one goal you have for this week? How about a goal for this trimester? What do you need to do to reach that goal?

Weekly Update
KUDOS! The class continues to prove themselves as responsible, respectful students both inside and outside of the classroom. As we begin to pick up the pace in class and for homework, everyone has excepted the challenge well.
Fundraiser: On Monday, we went to an assembly to introduce us to our first fundraiser of the year. Fundraisers are the only way our school has to make money to support the wonderful assemblies, and extra curricular activities around Reese. If everyone sold just one item, we would be able to make a lot of much-needed money for our school. If you are able to participate this year, please help us out. But remember, please be safe and don’t sell to people you don’t know!
Fitness Fridays!: Every Friday, as weather permits, we will be running the mile. Please make sure you are dressed for success! Where comfortable clothes, and tennis shoes. Everyone will participate unless I have a note from the doctor or parent notice. In the spring, students will take place in the Presidential Physical Fitness Testing, and running the mile is one component of the testing.

Back To School Night Reminder…
Back to School Night is on Thursday night at 5:30. We will start in the Multipurpose Room and then move to the classrooms from there. It is preferred that students stay home and only parents attend. This way, parents have an opportunity to listen carefully to class guidelines and expectations for the year. A schedule has been created to help ensure parents are able to visit multiple student classrooms. See everyone tomorrow night!
A New Year
What are some of your first thoughts, reactions, or experiences you would like to share about 5th grade? Feel free to click on someone else’s comment if you want to respond to them as well.
Class Meeting
Today we had our first class meeting of the year. We went over procedures and expectations in the beginning. Then we walked through a concern one student brought up in the meeting. After discussing and agreeing on a logical consequence using the Three R’s, we ended with compliments. I am so impressed with this class’s maturity level and respect for one another. It is clear that everyone wants others to succeed! I can’t wait for our next class meeting, next Wednesday after lunch. I know they will keep getting better and better.
KUDOS! We had 6 students “Quiz Out” of math homework for the first lesson tonight!
Homework 8-18: Math – Practice 1-1 (unless you quizzed out), Journal – complete today’s topic, Social Studies- page 3 of the packet.
2nd Day Success!
Today was another great day in class. The students worked very hard on their assignments and showed great respect by working quietly so that others could finish their entry math assessment and complete fluencies. Tomorrow we will continue with assessments and work more of our normal routine into the day.
Back to School Night- Thursday at 5:30 pm. Parents only please. This is an opportunity to find out about our class, curriculum, and expectations. Students should not attend. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
Homework: Journal- Free write 1/2 page or more. Social Studies- Map packet; page 1.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!
What an amazing first day of school it was today. Although it was a minimum day, we were able to accomplish so much in a short period of time. I am looking forward to another great full day tomorrow as we dive deeper into 5th grade.
Start looking over your Survival Guide and gather materials for a successful year. I would like everyone to have their materials ready by next Monday, if not sooner!
Homework 8/16: Finish Journal, Start collecting materials, HW Cal signed by parents.
