Summary Writing: Uses of the Buffalo (Audio)

This subsection described the ways in which the Native Americans used every part of the buffalo. Our assignment was to write a summary. You can listen to each student read their summary as well! We’ll be doing this from now on to increase our fluency. Reading our writing aloud also helps to enhance our writing. Enjoy!

    • The paragraph is great except for the go sentence. The title is selection is “From the Brains to the Tail.” One thing i noticed inyour audio is that you said next of all and that doesn’t really make sense.

    The selection “From the Brains to the Tails” First of all, buffalo provided food for the Native Americans. The woman cut the meat and let it dry for days. When the days passed the sun-dried meat was called jerky. Indian woman mixed Jerky, pounded to pulp, with buffalo fat, and flavored. It was called pemmican. they also ate ribs and steak. Next, the buffalo’s skin was ised for clothing. They wore robes and cloaks around them to keep their body warm. Caps and earmuffs were used to keep their head and ears warm. Also they wore leggings and mittens to keep their hands and legs warm. Finally, the buffaloes were used for shelter. Waterproof tipis that could withstand the worst weather. To sum up, the selection describes the uses of buffalo for the Great Plains.

    • I like that you used transitions and you discribed the uses very well in the paragraph but your go sentence doesn’t make sense and one of your sentences isn’t capitalized. In the audio, I liked that you used expression and you passed but you were a little hesitant.

    The selection “From the Brains to the Tail” provides information on how Indians use every part of he buffalo. First of all, buffalo provided food for the Indians. One type of food was ribs and steak. Another type was jerky. The last type was pemmican which was jerky with berries and nuts. Next, buffalo was used for clothing. They made robes and cloaks to put around them in the cold. They also made caps and earmuffs to protect their ears and heads. Leggings and mittens were also made from buffalo to keep their legs and hands warm. Finally, they made their shelter from buffalo. They made their houses called tipis out of waterproof skins that that could withstand terrable weather. In conclusion, this selection describes all the uses for buffalo.

    • For the audio I like that a paused and that i had expression but i could improove on my fluency. In the writing I made sense and I used transitions but I used the word they to much in for my first, second, and third red sentences.

    • In your paragaph, I liked the transitions but the word Indians should be capitalized. For your audio, it was great that you used expression and you passed but but it wasn’t very smooth.
