Scholastic Book Order

Posted on

I have submitted our first Scholastic Book Order and I just wanted you to know that not only are you getting some great prices for some great books, but you are also contributing to our class library. Scholastic is gifting us with TWENTY new books for our library. Half they choose to be a surprise and the other half I was able to select. I chose books related to the presidential election, 9/11, Halloween, and the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid (Double Down)! Thanks for all who ordered through me, and through our online code. My goal is to have high interest books that the students are excited to READ!

Student Agendas are HERE!

Posted on

Parents – thank you for your patience. I know it has been difficult not having the accountability piece of student agendas to check for homework. Hopefully you’ve just become well adjusted to using the blog. 🙂 The good news is that they JUST arrived hot off the press! Your child will come home with it tomorrow so please start the process of checking the agendas to make sure all homework is done. The students know the following rules…

– even if homework is finished in class,
it still goes home for parents to review and check
it still gets written in the agenda, but they can place a check next to it

These are skills that will help them to be organized as intermediate students and beyond.

I have also placed a sticker on the bottom with the link to the blog in case you would ever like to double check what’s written in the agenda.

Exciting to get these kiddos taking ownership of their tasks. 🙂

Thank you!

Thanks to all who attended our Back-to-School morning and evening sessions. I’m looking forward to working closely together to make your child super successful this 2016-2017 school year. For those who did not attend, I sent home envelopes today with all the same material. Please be sure to complete all the necessary forms and return them by Monday latest. As always, let me know if you have any questions. We are off to a great start!

Year-End Fun!

THE END OF THE YEAR
IS ALMOST HERE…
SO A PARTY MUST BE NEAR!

Dear Parents,
It’s hard to believe, but the end of the year is here! Your child has worked so hard throughout this year and now it is time to wind down and celebrate! Many things will be happening the last week of school so here are some details FYI…

All Week
• No homework this week (nor was there any last week).
• Students will be eating lunch outdoors.
• It is recommended that your child comes with a water bottle to stay hydrated, and maybe even sunblock and/or a hat on these warmer days.
• Uniform shirts are still expected, unless it is a specific theme day.

Monday, June 6th
* Staff vs 6th grade Students in a Volleyball game – your child might want to wear sunblock, sunglasses and a hat as we will be outdoors for a good hour. Parents are welcome to come and play on the staff side. 
* Type Mission Investigations/EOY Opinion Writing on Chromebooks
* Pizza party for those Passing Math Facts 1-12
* Yearbook Signing and Farewell Class Book

Tuesday, June 7th
* Staff vs 6th grade Students in a Basketball game – your child might want to wear sunblock, sunglasses and a hat as we will be outdoors for a good hour. Parents are welcome to come and play on the staff side! 
*Yogurt Parfait Party for Making Healthy Eating Choices this Year
* Oral Presentations – Mission Project Slideshows

Wednesday, June 8th
* Enjoy the last Harvest of the Month for the year – bell peppers
*Chromebook Fun Activities
* We will have a garage sale. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure, right?!  Your child will be able to sell items (optional) to other students to earn some extra class money before our final auction. No more than what can fit on and around their desk. Please check the items your child intends to sell and give your approval. No candy, food or drinks please. Again, students should not come with real money to class. This is being sold for class money to earn for final auction.

Thursday, June 9th
* We will clean out our desks and send things home. Please send your child with an extra bag or an emptied backpack.
* Game day! Students can bring a game or two from home to share with classmates. This should be a card or board game. Please avoid electronic items that only involve one or two people.
* Final Auction – Turn in class money

Friday, June 10th LAST DAY!
* Special treats for summer birthdays
* Movie, popcorn, and Beach Day. Students may dress in appropriate beach gear (shorts and tanks) to relax while viewing the movie.
* AR prizes will be awarded for points earned. I will post total points on the blog so check it out.
* Report Cards sent home (unless there are outstanding bills).
*Minimum Day – 12:30 Dismissal

Students: Vacation officially begins at 12:30! Have a wonderful break and the best wishes in fifth grade. Please spend some time reading daily, and log onto iReady and THINK Central to stay sharp over the summer. I will miss you all so please come back and visit!

Parents: I hope this information answers any questions you may have. You are welcome to stop by and join us for the celebrations of this year-end. Also feel free to call me at school if you have any questions 688-8586 x150 or e-mail me at Dpitteng@egusd.net. Thanks for a spectacular year together!

Ms. Yanez

Testing Tomorrow!

Posted on

Please make sure your child is well rested and well fed for our 1st day of testing tomorrow. It is seeming to take other classes much longer than anticipated so we will test until about 11:40. Please make sure your child is on time so that they do not have to do make-ups, and please avoid early dismissals if possible. Lastly, start the morning off with a little extra encouragement and love tomorrow! 🙂

Class Winners!

Posted on

Wow! We are achieving goals in here!

Our class won the Pennies for Patients schoolwide contest by raising over $200! We earned a pizza party next Wednesday!

Omari Hunter placed 2nd in the Schoolwide Science Fair Contest! Way to go!

Chantal Gonzalez was our only BCM winner in the District to win in the Harvest of the Month Poster Contest. Beautiful artist!

I am so proud of my students for taking advantage of some great learning and talent opportunities, and also for giving to a worthwhile cause!

FREE Tutoring!

Posted on

Did you know that you have access to free tutoring for your child? This is information I shared during first conferences, and there are still a few spaces available. In fact, I know that we have 2 tutoring services who are actually active ON our campus, though you may also opt to select a tutoring service at a specific location. In order to take advantage of this opportunity, please go to the office and request the form, then get it in ASAP.

Supplies and Donations

Posted on

I am looking for donations and hoping a few of you work in locations that may be able to provide these items.

* Colored Copy Paper
* Electric Pencil Sharpener
* Stapler
* Tape dispenser
* Tall Bookshelf

Though I can order many of these items, I prefer to use the money directly for student materials since we have a limited allowance. Thanks in advance for checking.

Parking Lot Volunteers

Posted on

Our campus needs help with parking lot volunteers before and after school to assist with traffic direction and crossing guard. Ms. Umi is holding a contest and anyone who volunteers will receive one raffle ticket per duty session toward a gift card raffle. Please email me at dpitteng@egusd.net if you would like your name added to the list. Thanks in advance for any time you can donate.
