Updates

Good evening families! Just wanted to remind everyone that tomorrow 4/23 is our picture day for our class photo. This is usually part of the spring picture day process, but the weather prevented us from doing our outdoor group picture. This is a free dress opportunity for students to wear their nice spring attire if they so choose.

On Friday I sent home a note regarding their mission project. It should be signed and returned tomorrow, the notes are due by Friday, and the extra credit in May. Please see the note for further details.

I hope you are aware of our Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser. Students who bring in their first pledge of $5 will get a super cute Jax key chain. They were sent home with details 2 weeks ago.

Spring pictures and/or $ are due. Thanks to all who have returned them. If you haven’t, please be sure to get them back by May 2nd latest.

We have about 3/4 of the class paid and ready for our History Brought to Life assembly. Make sure your child brings in their $5 soon. Information was sent home the Monday we returned from Spring break.

As always, let me know if you have any questions. Looking forward to another fabulous week with your kiddos!

Ms. Yanez

Strive to be on-time!

Posted on

Hello parents! This week we have a goal to have 100% of students present, and on-time. The class with the highest percentage will be the winner for this week’s spirit rally. Thank you in advance for making the extra effort this week, especially with the rainy weather in store.

Also, please be on the lookout for conference notes coming home today. These are optional conferences so please return the signed note stating whether you would like to meet or not. You will then receive a confirmation note with your scheduled time.

Have a great week, everyone!

Farmers’ Market Reminders

Posted on

Hello families! A few reminders about tomorrow’s field trip. It is scheduled to be on rain or shine, unless we get a last minute cancellation from the market based on severe weather conditions. Thank you to all of our chaperones for helping us to make this trip happen!

* Be on time at 9:10- we will load the bus promptly after attendance
* Backpacks are not needed, but a small reusable bag for purchases may be a good idea
* No hw is due (except for outstanding conference confirmation notes)
* Dress in layers, and come with a jacket. Hoods and beanies are okay.
* We will use umbrellas if necessary, and can share within groups
* Students will earn coins but may bring additional money. They are responsible for it.
* Fruits, vegetables, nuts and flowers will be acceptable purchases. We will be avoiding the “junk” tent.

Hope this answers all of your questions. Please send me a message if needed. And don’t forget – Friday there is no school due to Veterans Day.

Huge thanks to Massa for sharing her religious holiday of Eid Al-adha. It was very interesting to learn about her religious culture. And her classmates were excited to dig into the donuts she brought. And big thanks to Lilly too for sharing how to be a Goal Setter. We learned all about the goals she set in AR and the ACTIONS she will take in order to get to the Wall of Fame. Way to go, girls!

Synergy Sign-Up

Posted on

Hello parents – thank you to those of you who have already signed up on Synergy and updated your information. This will become a major form of communication this year as it allows contact through emails, and access to see your child’s grades throughout the year (as I figure out how to make that happen!). I still have MANY of your access codes. If you did not receive a form at Back to School Night (or the other parent) then please stop by and pick it up. We can NOT hand them to students or to an adult whose name is not on the form (ex: wife cannot pick up husband’s). They must be picked up directly from the parent listed to protect all privacy. Let me know if you have any questions.

First Full Week

Posted on

Parents – I can’t thank you enough for getting us off to a great start! Your children came to school ready to learn with their supplies, forms completed, and even with extra donations for the class! Thank you for helping us kick off the year so fantastically. So what did we do?! We spent a lot of time getting to know one another and understanding classroom agreements for our community. Your child learned and practiced how we successfully serve as a listener and a speaker. They did their first oral presentation and introduced a new partner after interviewing him/her. They will be bringing home another presentation to prep for this week! 🙂 We worked on collaborative conversations with ALL students participating, as well as group work to demonstrate the BCM Way rules and expectations. Academically, we reviewed our sound spelling cards and played fun games to practice phonics skills and syllables. We began our first math chapter on Place Value and even had our first few hw assignments. And whoopsie…heard some excuses last week. Your child was well informed that I expect effort and accountability and I know we will have 100% completion this week. We practiced taking notes in our notebooks about genres and reflections, and finished up fluency assessments. I reminded them that skipping nightly reading is only cheating themselves, not me. And in more exciting news, tomorrow is the solar eclipse! While we will NOT be outside between 9:30 – 11:30 per a BCM agreement, we will have fun in-class learning activities planned and will watch via the NASA feed. I’m excited for another fun and busy week!
