Today we watched a short video to help students understand why we are collecting Pennies for Patients in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Students are asked to bring in any spare change or cash to help raise funds for treatments, patients, and research. Every penny counts! This also ties in perfectly with our Mystery to Medicine reading unit. Students can bring in other things to share related to this unit, or even start their own service learning project to help a cause they believe in.

Chinese New Year
Posted onGung Hay Fat Choy! This week we honor Chinese New Year – Year of the Dragon. If you celebrate this holiday, please post something about how your family celebrates. We’d love to hear all about your family traditions. If you don’t celebrate, please post anything you know about Chinese New Year. For example, do you know what animal represents you based on your year of birth? Do you agree with what it says about you? On Friday we will be doing a special project related to this holiday with our 1st grade buddies. You can also post what you think we might be making. Let’s get some class discussion going!
Signed items this week
Posted onLast week Ch 5 Multiple Choice and Free Response Tests were sent home. Students had the opportunity to do re-do’s for additional credit. If your child received a D or F, I HIGHLY recommend they take advantage of that opportunity. Not only will it boost their grade, but hopefully they can LEARN from their mistakes. I also sent home a cumulative Ch 1-4 Test. They may also complete re-do’s for this test by Friday. If they have forgotten the material, they should be referring back to their math notes in their math notebook.
Progress Reports were also sent home last week. Thank you for the many inquiries. I am happy to see that we are working together to make your child accountable and successful.
Today your child will also be bringing home a Science Test that they took when learning from Mrs. DeGuzman. This was after a month long rotation. They had the opportunity to use both notes, and the book for this test. For that reason, Mrs. DeGuzman is not allowing re-do’s. Please sign and return by Friday.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your individual child, please e-mail or call me so we can discuss it. Thanks!

We are trying to win the school competition and earn $100 toward classroom supplies (much needed!). All items will be delivered just in time for Valentine’s Day so splurge on someone you love. 🙂 Reminder to students: Please do not go door-to-door or sell to strangers. We suggest you sell only to family and friends.
