  1. Prompt:by now Wilson Rawls has developed the unique personalities of each of Billy’s hounds,Little Ann and Old Dan. Write a summary of their personalities.

    Comparison

One comparison is that Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan. Little Ann catches more coons than Old Dan. That’s very smart because catching coon is very hard to do. The coon trick Old Dan, The coon can’t easily trick Little Ann. When Billy’s mom gets a chicken Old Dan just destroys it,but Little Ann tries to keep it alive. That proves why Little Ann is smarter because they need the chicken for them to eat.

Little Ann is a girl and Old Dan is a boy. I can tell that Old Dan is a boy because when Billy named them he knew which is which. When Billy saw the carved names in the sycamore tree he also knew that what name should go to who. Another way I can tell is by the way the way Billy treats them. That’s a way to tell if it’s a girl or a boy.

  3. Old Dan and Little Ann
In the book, Where the Red Fern Grows, Wilson Rawls, the author of the book, has established that Old Dan and Little Ann, Billy’s (the main protagonist) dogs are very different in terms of personality. It is the story of Billy Colman, a child who wants 2 dogs, and eventually gets them by saving money. They have so many differences that it makes them a delight to read about, because they are always changing.
One difference you could say is that Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan. Some evidence to back it up is that Little Ann has caught more raccoons than Old Dan. Another bit of evidence is that when Billy’s mom wants to catch a chicken, Old Dan always tears it up, but Little Ann grabs it and keeps it alive. Some common sense you could use is that if coons like to play smart tricks on people, and Old Dan always gets fooled, but Little Ann doesn’t, then she is obviously smarter.
Another difference is that Little Ann is very playful, while Old Dan has a tough attitude. As some evidence, in the text, it says “[Little Ann’s] actions weren’t those of a hunting hound. She was constantly playing.” “Old Dan was just the opposite. He walked around with a belligerent and tough attitude.” Another piece of evidence to support this is that when Billy goes coon hunting, Old Dan is always excited to kill some coons, while as Little Ann is a little reluctant.
All in all, Little Ann and Old Dan both have different personalities that makes them all the more enjoyable.

  4. “Where The Red Fern Grows”
    (Compare and Contrast)

In the story Where the Red Fern Grows, there is a boy named Billy and all his life he wanted two hound pups. When he got them Billy named the boy Old Dan along with a girl which that he named Little Ann. Although they are both blood hounds, they are still much different than similar.
First of all, Old Dan is a bit stubborn compared to smart Little Ann. Why, because she has caught more coons than Old Dan. Old Dan usually doesn’t think straight and all that he thinks about is catching the coon that they’re looking for. Also Little Ann has found the lost coons tracks in the night many times in their hunts which is indeed very smart, and while Little Ann did that Old dan was still looking around.
Second, Little Ann is weaker than Old Dan. One because she is a girl and Old Dan is a boy hound, When Billy got his two hounds he didn’t know until he picked the names for his to little pups which were Old Dan and Little Ann which were carved up upon a tree. Also another reason why i think Little Ann is weaker than Old Dan is because of the first time they came across a coon which had been trapped by Billy, Old Dan just wanted to get in there and get the big bad coon because he knew that he could handle it but Little Ann just stayed back and watched.
Therefore I believe that Little Ann is much weaker but nonetheless smarter than her friendly companion Old Dan.

  5. Little Ann and Old Dan
Little Ann and Old Dan have many differences.
Like for instance, Little Ann is more energetic than Old Dan. She caught more coons while Old Dan was standing by the lake. So here are some ways Little Ann and Old Dan differ.Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan. Whenever Billy’s mom wants Little Ann to go catch a chicken she knows how to bring it back with just a few feathers missing.Little Ann is physically smaller than Old Dan. Little Ann looks smaller than an average hound. Little Ann is a better hunter than Old Dan. If the coon crosses the river Little Ann chases it across the river while Old Dan stand there on the other side of the river instead of crossing through. Old Dan is more of a whiner than Little Ann. “He wasn’t bawling on a trail or giving a tree bark. It was one, long, continuous cry”. Old Dan has caught less raccoons than Little Ann because, instead of chasing the coon across the river Old Dan decides to stay across the river instead of running across the river. Old Dan is more lazier than Little Ann. Whenever Little Ann is busy chasing a coon he just watches unless the racoon comes near him. Little Ann and Old Dan both enjoy hunting. For raccoons. They both enjoy going places. In the woods. The two dogs both enjoy to eat. Corn Husk and meat.

  6. Little And and Old Dan
I am going to tell you the differences between Little Ann and Old Dan. Little Ann and Old Dan’s owner is Billy which is the main character. Even though Little Ann and Old Dan look alike they are different in many ways.
Little Ann is different from Old Dan because Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan. LIttle Ann is smarter than Old Dan because when ever Billy’s mom wants a chicken
Old Dan tries to kill it when Little Ann tries to keep it alive. Little Ann catches more raccoons than Old Dan because Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan so it is harder for raccoons to trick Little Ann.
Little Ann can protect herself better than Old Dan can. Little Ann can protect herself better than Old Dan because Little Ann is cautious but Old Dan has no strangers and in the text in chapter eight Little Ann helped Old Dan from getting more hurt.
Now you know Little Ann and Old Dan are different in many ways even though they look the same.

  7. Where The Red Fern Grows
Where The Red Fern Grows Billy has two dogs. His dogs names were Little Ann and Old Dan. These are the ways they are different and alike.
The differences between Old Dan and Little Ann is that Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan. Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan because when the coon pulled a trick on Little Ann, she tracked the coon’s trail. She is smarter than Old Dan because when Billy’s mom needs a chicken Little Ann holds down the chicken until Billy’s mom comes, when she tells Old Dan to go get a chicken he comes back with feathers. All in all that is why I think Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan.
The ways Little Ann and Old Dan are alike is because they both have caught a coon. The other way they are alike is because they like to go coon hunting. They’re also friendly to everyone (but coons). They are alike because they both like to play. They both care about each other. All in all that is how they are alike in my opinion.

All in all that is how they are different and how they are alike.

  8. Little Ann and Old Dan

In the book Where The Red Fern Grows there is a kid named Billy and he is eleven years old. He has two hound dogs. Initially there is a smart dog and a not smart one. They are Little Ann and Old Dan.
Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan. Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan because LIttle Ann always catches more racoons then Dan because Little Ann isn’t easily tricked by coons Little Ann is smarter because whenever Billy’s mom wants a chicken Old Dan destroys the chicken but LIttle Ann catches and gives it to her.Little Ann isn’t easily tricked by coons. Little Ann is always following Billy but Dan keeps getting lost in the woods. LIttle Ann has brown fur. Old Dan has black fur. All in all I think Little Ann is smarter.
LIttle Ann and Old Dan are alike because they are both dogs. Another, reason that they’re alike is they are playful. they are playful because in the book it says that Little Ann always has a way to play with Old Dan. They, are also alike because they love to go coon hunting. In page seventy one Where The Red Fern Grows chapter eight it says “The day of hunting and they are excited to go.
All in all Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan.

  9. Billy Colman from Where the Red Fern Grows has two dogs. Their names are Little Ann and Old Dan. They have a lot of similarities but also have many differences.

They both love hunting coons. When a coon does a trick they never learned before they don’t give up. If Billy tells them to stop trying they won’t stop trying. They try their best even if they can’t catch a coon. This proves they love hunting coons and they will do anything to get a coon.

They both love Billy. Billy tries to get away to the store because there are big dogs and Billy has a feeling that they want to beat up Old Dan because Billy knows Old Dan is kind of weaker than Little Ann. Little Ann can take care of herself .But they still follow him anyway. They never leave his side (only if they are hunting a coon). I would want to always have a dog that follows me everywhere I go (except to school because I would get in big trouble).

Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan. She knew that the coon went across the river while Old Dan just followed the same trail over and over again. The coon does a lot of tricks and Little Ann can figure out what the coon did and where he went, but it takes a while for Old Dan to figure it out. Knowing that she understands the tricks a coon does proves she is smarter than Old Dan.

Old Dan is more determined than Little Ann. Old Dan wanted to stay at the Big tree. Little Ann was just ready to leave. Old Dan climbed a tree, and dogs usually does not climb trees, just to get a baby coon. He was so determined that Billy had to stuff rocks to block Old Dan from getting back up the tree again. This prove he was very determined than Little Ann.

They both have great and some of the same personalities, but I think Little Ann might have a better one.

  10. Little Ann is very different from old Dan because Billy is slow at catching coons and little Ann faster at catching coons that’s one things she’s good at and Billy is good at making people like him Ann is too so that’s one thing that Ann and Billy is good at and the mad Because the lantern almost killed his dog little Ann or old Dan would of had made their death he would be no longer happy again if they die

  11. Little Ann and Old Dan, have different sides of each other. I am going compare and contrast Little Ann with Old Dan. For example, Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan. When Billy’s mom tells the dogs to catch the chickens Old Dan goes catches the chicken and brings it back to Billy’s mom, but the chicken doesn’t have any meat left on it. So he basically went for nothing. Little Ann actually got a chicken and brought it safely to mom. Little Ann doesn’t get tricked that easily unlike Old Dan.
Another way I could prove that Billy’s two hound dogs are different. When Grandfather and the two dogs were on there way back home from coon hunting.Old Dan sees a coon, so he jumps out the window and goes chasing after it. Unlike Little Ann she stayed in the car calmly and waited for grandfather to return with Old Dan. This proves that Little Ann could control herself better than Old Dan when they see a coon.
Lastly Little Ann and Old Dan are different because, there was slippery snow and his grandfather said to be careful because there was also gonna be fog. Then in chapter eleven it says that “Old Dan ,a more powerful dog than Little Ann had made his leap.” When Little Ann tried to leap across she couldn’t, “Her small feet had probably slipped on the slick ice and she had fallen into the icy waters.”So this proves that Old Dan is more powerful than Little Ann.

  12. W.T.R.F.G

One comparison of little Ann is that she is smarter than old Dan because it is hard to catch a coon and she already has more than old Dan so little ann is brave and smarter.billy got little ann and old Dan because he wanted them and because he wanted them for hunting some coons for billy and to help him get theme.

Little ann is weaker than old dan because she is a girl and old dan is a boy i think that little ann is smarter than old dan but old dan could be a little smart.

  13. Where the Red Fern Grow
In, Where the Red Fern Grows Billy has two red-hound dogs, their names are Little Ann and Old Dan. Billy worked really hard to get them. They have a lot of differences, but they also have some similes.
One of their differences is that Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan. First of all, Little Ann caught more coons than Old Dan. She is smarter because coons usually try to play tricks on Little Ann and Old Dan, but Little Ann can’t be fooled so easily and Old Dan can be. Another way Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan because, Little Ann can catch Billys mom’s chicken easily, as for Old Dan it is harder for him to catch the chicken. This means that Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan because Little Ann is more strategic and Old Dan just tries to run around and catch the chicken.
One simile is that they are both determined to get the coon before they go back home. For example when Little Ann and Old Dan first trapped a coon in a tree, Billy couldn’t chop it down all in one night. But Little and Old Dan wouldn’t leave so Billy had to carry them to his grandpa’s car. But when Billy went to sleep Old Dan and Little Ann snuck out and went back to the trapped coon in the tree. They stayed there all night long. Another way that the dogs are determined is that when they saw that the coon went into the water. They kept swimming back and forth until they found the coons trail again. This explains how they are determined to get the coon.
As I said before, Little Ann and Old Dan have some differences, but they also have some similarities.

  14. Little Ann and Old Dan
Little Ann and Old Dan are alike and different at the same time. Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan because when Billy’s mom needed a hen Old Dan just gobbled it. Little Ann grabbed the chicken and took it to Billy’s mom with life
Little Ann and is better from brain than Old Dan but Old Dan is sometimes determined to do his best. Also Little Ann is not easy to get off a scent of a coon.
Old Dan tries to stay on the trail but gets off easly.Little Ann and Old Dan are alike in some ways. One way is because they are the same breed. Also they both understand when Billy talks to them.
All in all they are both different and the same in many reasons.

  15. Where The Red Fern Grows

Billy’s dogs look alike but are really different. Little Ann is the small one and knows how to hunt. Old Dan is the that likes to hunt. Little Ann is more intelligent than Old Dan because she tracks the most coons down. She scared one of the coons up a tree. She is the one that catches all the coons that they have stored in their barn. She kills them all and Old Dan only killed one. She is not easily tricked.

Old Dan is the one that likes hunting. He likes hunting because when the coon was up a tree billy went to his house with a scarecrow guarding the tree. Old Dan ran off to the tree to make sure the coon won’t leave. He stayed there all night with Little Ann. He tries to find a coon like he found a muskrat den.

When billy’s mom wants to catch a chicken Old Dan brings it back destroyed. Unlike Little Ann she brings it back alive.Old Dan did not know why he had to get the chicken so he destroyed it. Little Ann knows why so she brings it back alive. Old Dan still needs to learn more things while Little Ann knows more.

Little Ann is smaller than Old Dan. She is smaller than a regular hound. She is still a very good hunter even if she is smaller. She can’t jump as high as Old Dan but she is still good at other things. She is not as strong as Old Dan. Her little paws are not so strong to jump as high or leap over the river. Old Dan could leap over the river but Little Ann could not do it as he did it.

  16. Where The Red Fern Grows
    Compare and Contrasts

Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan.

Little Ann’s actions weren’t those of hunting hound. Little Ann always played constantly. She always played with the chickens, and young calves, and with a piece of paper or corncob. She was smarter than Old Dan. She caught more raccoon’s than Old Dan.
Old Dan was the opposite of Little Ann. Old Dan always strutted with a belligerent and tough attitude. He was always focused for hunting for raccoon’s. But Old Dan was friendly dog. They were no strangers to him. Yet he was a strange dog. Even though Old Dan and Little Ann are opposite, they can still hunt raccoon’s.

  17. Old Dan and Little Ann W.T.R.F.G

In “Where The Red Fern Grows” we know that Billy has two dogs Little Ann and Old Dan so, let’s see what happens when we start comparing the two dogs.
So we can tell that Little Ann is the smart one because every time mom said to go catch a chicken Old Dan would tear it up but when Little Ann got one it was alive. This means that Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan because she knows how to hunt the right way. Last she knows not to tear the meat skin and other things.
In some cases the are the same. They both like hunting with Billy and do not listen to often. They both wandered off. One time there was a coon in a tree and Billy said to stay home and not leave the house. But they both went back. Then in the morning Little Ann came back to the house. They both went to the tree. Billy saw Old Dan then saw two bed like thing in the ground. And then realized that the both went back to the tree.

  18. Where The Red Fern Grows

Billy has two hound dogs little Ann and Old Dan, but even though there still the same type of dog one is smarter.

Little Ann is way smarter than Old Dan. She has caught the most coons and Old Dan has only has caught the one in the tree that billy was chopping. She is more sneaky than Old Dan because when they first went hunting Little Ann picked up the trail of the coon right away and the coon didn’t trick Little Ann but he tricked Old Dan. Whenever Billy’s mom wants little Ann to get a chicken she brings it back alive,While on the other hand when she told Old Dan to get a chicken he just destroyed it.

Old Dan is more dumb (as you can tell) and he likes to guard stuff. When billy was cutting down the big sycamore tree and he go home to eat dinner, that night Old Dan went to make sure the coon was still in the tree. Billy’s Grandpa went to help billy build a scarecrow so the coon wouldn’t get out for a few days, Old Dan thought it was a real person so he started to bark and yell because they had put a face on it.

Even though they are both the same type of dog they act very different from each other.

  19. In the story Where The Red Fern Grows Little Ann and Old Dan are more different than alike. Even though they are siblings they are still very different.
Little Ann is smarter than Old Dan. She is smarter because she isn’t easily tricked when they go coon hunting. Therefore It is more easy for Little Ann to catch coons. Another reason why she is smarter is because when Billy’s mom tells her to catch a chicken she brings it back harmless but, if Old Dan went to get a chicken he would probably bring back the bones.
Old Dan is bigger than Little Ann. Old Dan is bigger because he is a normal sized hound but, Little Ann is smaller than a normal sized hound. Another reason how he is bigger is because he is buff. Therefore Old Dan is bigger than Little Ann.
Little Ann and Old Dan are alike because when they go coon hunting they are determined and they help each other. Another reason they are alike is because they both really love Billy.
Old Dan and Little Ann can be compared and contrasted in many ways.

  20. Comparison Between Little Ann and Old Dan

Where the Red Fern Grows is the book that we are reading by Wilson Rawls. A boy named Billy bought two pups named Old Dan and Little Ann. The dogs are the same and different in many ways.
They are the same in many way these are two. They will not go hunting without each other. when Little Ann was injured Billy was going to take Old Dan hunting but Old Dan did not want to go, then he walked to Little Ann and sat next to her. They are the same type of dogs that like to hunt. They both are dogs that like to hunt but not separately.
They’re different in size and brains. Little Ann is smaller but smarter Old Dan is short but was more heavy and less intelligent. Little Ann can walk under a ordinary hound Old Dan strutted around with a tough attitude. When Little Ann is asked to catch a chicken she will not kill it like Old Dan has. Little Ann could be small but is smart.
Therefore they are different and alike in many ways.
