  1. The Birth of a Legend?!

In the novel Maniac Magee, Jeffrey Lionel Magee, also known as Maniac Magee becomes a legend in the town of Two Mills. Hmmm? Why did he become a legend? It is what he does on his first day in the town of Two Mills that makes him legendary: in fact, there are 2 reasons why he became a legend. The first reason is that when he was wandering the streets of the East End, he intercepted a throw from Brian Deheney, a high-school student, during their P.E. time. He then threw it back to James “Hands” Down, who was the intended target of the throw, harder and more precise than Brian could ever throw a football. Another reason why Maniac became a legend is because he saved a child from Finsterwald’s backyard. The child, whose name is unknown, is called “Arnold Jones” by the author. Finsterwald’s house was infamous for being a creepy, and seemingly deserted house. Some high-schoolers that day had thrown “Arnold” over the fence into Finsterwald’s backyard. As “Arnold” shuddered in the backyard, Maniac walked up to “Arnold” and “Arnold” promptly fainted. Maniac set him down on Finsterwald’s steps, and as soon as “Arnold” woke up, he ran from Magee. In conclusion, Maniac became a legend because he threw a football harder than a high-school boy, and he also saved “Arnold Jones” from Finsterwald’s backyard.

When they came back into the diner room he was gone. The second reason he is a legend is because he was at the Little League field and there was this really tall twelve year old boy named McNab. He threw really fast pitches so Jeffery decided to step to the plate and McNab said “Get off the field runt. You’re not a red, or blue sox.” So he took a red cap and put it on McNab, threw the pitch and Jeffery hit it. Before Jeffrey, nobody had ever hit McNab’s fastballs.
