It is so important to Billy to cut down the sycamore tree because he made a promise to his dogs ,Little Ann and Old Dan, that if they get a coon in the tree then he will do the rest of the work to get the coon.

  2. Where the red fern grows
Billy was chopping down the big tree because his dogs found a coon in the tree. Billy could not let his dogs down so he started to chop the tree. While he was chopping he knew he could not chop it that easy because it was a big tree. He also knew it would take him a long time to take the tree down. He kept chopping while little Ann licked off his sweat and old Dan kept track of his work. He stopped a few times but still tried to get the tree to the ground

It is so important to Billy to cut down the sycamore tree because he made a promise to his dogs, Little Ann and Old Dan, that if they get a coon in the tree then he will do the rest of the work to get the coon. It is also important because if he does not cut down the tree or do anything to get the coon he will break his promise to his dogs. He believes his dogs won’t trust him anymore.

  4. He is trying to cut the tree because if he doesn’t he will not be able to get the coon. Also he will need a different place for his hunting dogs. He also doesn’t have someone to help him cut it. Also he wanted to get experience by getting the biggest coon and cut the biggest tree.

  5. It is so important for Billy to cut down the Sycamore tree because he is trying to see if there is a raccoon living in the tree. I can tell he is looking for raccoons in the sycamore tree because in the text it says “High up in the top I saw a hollow in the end of a broken limb. I figured that, that was the coon’s den.”
So obviously Billy doesn’t want to give up and he just wants the raccoon.

  6. Where The Red Fern Grows

Billy wanted to chop the sycamore tree because the coon they were chasing was on top of the tree. Billy spent most of the night and morning to all most cut the tree. Then his sister came to bring him lunch she said he was sick because his eyes were turning green and she tells him why don’t you just go look for another coon but billy doesn’t want to. Old Dan went to investigate how billy was doing in cutting the tree, Old Dan leaned on it and billy said don’t lean on it because it will fall and squish him.

  7. Billy had to cut down the tree because when he went hunting with his dogs, they were catching a coon that they spotted. The coon climbed and went to a giant sycamore tree, but Billy couldn’t climb it because it was about 60 feet tall.He told his dogs to go find another coon but his dogs didn’t follow him because this was the first coon his dogs caught and didn’t want to let it go.Little Ann seemed to cry which tore Billy’s heart. He said he didn’t care how long it took him, he will not let his dogs down so he will cut off the tree with his axe and get the coon.

He kept chopping while little Ann licked off his sweat and old Dan kept track of his work. His dad came to check on him. His dad told him to stop and look for a coon some other place. He did not listen to him and still tried to get the tree to the ground. He got his lunch from his sister. He gave the dog food to the the dogs and went to the spring to get cool water. The food gave him strength again. Little Ann dug a hole to sleep in. Every time he raised his ax and she looked at him.

  9. Chapter 8

In chapter 8 Billy has to chop down a big sycamore because there is a coon in the tree. Next, his Papa tell him”are you sure there is a coon in there”. Billy says “I’m sure that there is a coon in the tree or why would my dogs be standing up”. His dad insisted him to cut the tree. But Billy didn’t wanted to do it. His dad gave him his ax.Billy had to cut the tree down. Finally, he chopped away.

  10. It is so important for Billy to chop down the big sycamore tree because the coon that Billy has wanted to catch is stuck in there, and the only way he can get it down is by chopping the tree itself. To support my claim, in the text, it says “[The coon is] in that hollow tree. See–that one way up there.” Another reason why Billy needs to chop down the sycamore is that Billy made a deal with his dogs, saying that if the dogs cornered a coon up in the tree, he would do whatever it takes to get it. In the text, it says this: “I made a bargain with my dogs. I told them that if they would put one in a tree, I’d do the rest.” In conclusion, Billy is determined to chop the sycamore down because he needs to get the coon.

( Where The Red Fern Grows )

Billy is going to cut down the tree because there is a raccoon in it. Also because he made a bargain with his dogs and told them to put a raccoon into a tree and i would do the rest. All in all i think that is why Billy wants to cut down the old and humongous tree that he named about 2 or 3 times. Also if you are wondering what the names are, I’ll tell you, the first name Billy came up with was ( The Chicken Tree ), the second name Billy came up with was ( The Giant ), and the third name Billy came up with was ( The Big Tree ).

  12. It is so important because Billy’s dad wants a big coonskin on the smokehouse in the morning. Another reason why it is so important is because Billy promised his dogs that he will cut down the tree the coon in the tree. The last reason why it is so important is because Billy doesn’t care if it takes him a year to cut the tree down. This is why chopping down the tree is so important.

Billy Is going to cut down the tree because there was many raccoon’s in it. Also it was the biggest tree where the big raccoon’s live. Billy also named the tree 3 times. First he named the tree (The Chicken). Second he named it (The Gain).Last he named it (The Big).

  14. WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS

Billy chop down the sycamore tree to get the treed raccoon because he saw the raccoon in the tree.First it started when he was walking and saw the tree he looked up heard some noises , saw red eyes and disappeared under the bushes. Then Dan and little Ann smell a scent of the coon so they started to bark at the tree. Billy knew that it was a raccoon in the sycamore tree so that he could not reach it he had to chop it down when the tree fell down suddenly the coon fell on the ground then started to run and Billy told Dan and Ann to go get the coon. The pups ran as fast as they can go then they catch the coon. Next Billy know if the the coon was alive or dead. But he saw that the raccoon played a dirty trick on him.The raccoon got up and ran on the drift, leaped into the water, and crossed the river.

It was sad that Billy lost the dogs but if they tried again they will maybe have a chance to get the coon .
