This entire week is min days which means your child will be dismissed at 12:30. There will be NO LATE START on Thursday. That also means that it is parent conference week. Please remember to come and meet me at your scheduled time. I have a very booked schedule so please also be prompt, and I will do my best to stay on time as well. I look forward to meeting with you and your child this week!
Trimester 1 Ending
Posted onAs the trimester is ending you will notice that this week there is minimal homework. We are transitioning from Trimester 1 to Trimester 2 and focusing on finishing assignments, organizing, having fun, etc.. Please also note that I have already scheduled conferences and your child should have a conference confirmation note for you to sign. I look forward to meeting with you and setting goals together for the next trimester.
Friday Festivities
Posted onHello Parents! Tomorrow is going to be a fun and exciting day. We will be finishing up Red Ribbon Week with CRAZY hair day. I will also be sending home Unicef boxes so that your child can trick-or-treat for a good cause if you so choose to participate. All money is due on Monday.
We will also be having special rotation stations tomorrow. I welcome any parents who would like to help. This will take place from 10:40 – 11:40 and again from 12:25 – 1:25. Please email me at dpitteng@egusd.net if you plan to pop in so that I can have a station assigned to you. You may also send in treats, but I ask that they not be sugar centered (perhaps orange things like carrots, cheez-its, or pumpkin seeds, dips, etc). Looking forward to a frightfully fun Friday! 🙂
Ms.Yanez Out All Week
Posted onHello students and families,
I managed to break a bone in my ankle this weekend so I have been put on leave through the week. Mrs.Murphy will do a fabulous job in my absence, and I am hopeful I will return next week. Thanks for understanding.
Book Collection for Butte Fire Victims
Posted onWe are collecting new and gently used books for the fire victims in Butte County from October 5 – 16th. Please take a look over the weekend to see if there is something you could donate to help. Many of the displaced families include children who no longer have things to read. In fact, an entire school burned down and they need to replenish their library. If everyone donated just one book, we could donate 720 books! A special reminder note will be coming home on Monday. Thanks in advance for any support.
Book Order Freebies!
Posted onTHANK YOU to all those who ordered from our last book order. You earned our classroom FIFTEEN free books, bookmarks for each child in the class, and posters for those who ordered. Scholastic always provides perks to the classroom so it’s a win-win! Thanks again. More order forms will continue to come home throughout the year so that everyone has the opportunity to stock up those home libraries. 🙂
Parent Informationals This Week – PLEASE Attend
Posted onThe number one thing we hear at conferences is that parents are struggling with Common Core and are unable to help their child. We designed this informational with hopes of helping you…
Understand Common Core Math Standards and Expectations
Learn to Help Your Child with Math
Learn Multiple Methods to Multiply
We understand many people work, but we are hoping you can take time to attend. Perhaps consider taking a late lunch, or informing your employer that this is a conference type event (they are required by law to give you time off). Maybe send an aunt or grandfather, or other person who assists with homework.
As mentioned at Back to School Night, the dates include September 21, 22, 23, or 24
2:45 – 3:45
You do not need to attend the workshop with your child’s teacher. You may attend whichever day works best for your schedule as the material will be repeated. However, Please sign in because we will have a class contest and the teacher that has the most parent attendance across the 4 days will earn their child’s class an Otter pop party.

Book Order Delay
Posted onMy apologies for those who turned in book orders. Normally we would have them in by now, but there is a delay. Unfortunately, I was not able to submit the order right away due to some issues with student orders turned in. Please make sure that future book orders have the order forms filled out, student names are on them, and that a CHECK is included made out to Scholastic, not BCM. The order should arrive early next week. As I said, typically it will be much faster than this once all the kinks are worked out. And again, thank you so much for ordering and supporting our classroom!
Year start Fluency
Posted onAt the beginning of the year it is our expectation that students are reading 100 words correct per minute (wcpm). Congratulations to the students who are meeting that current goal (listed below)! ALL students should be reading nightly and working on appropriate speed and expression. At the end of this trimester I will be giving awards based on GROWTH, no matter where students are starting. Each student should be striving for their personal best. Please continue to encourage nightly reading and keep a literature rich home with plenty of reading material available. Remember, the public library is a great resource!

Late Start Thursdays
Posted onPlease remember that tomorrow and EVERY THURSDAY is a LATE start day and students begin school at 9:10. It will take us all some time to make that part of our routine. 🙂
