Have you ever eaten a bug in your life? Well I read this fantastic TFK article, Bug Business, which told me a lot about bugs and why you can eat them. Our teacher brought us chili-lime crickets, superworms and chocolate-covered superworms. These bugs are healthy. These bugs should be included in our diets because they are nutritious, they are very tasty, and they are sustainable. To begin with the bugs we eat are very nutritious. The cofounder of, Bitty Foods, Megan Miller pointed out that bugs contain vitamins, fiber, protein, and minerals. These are healthy products for us.
My second reason is that bugs are nice and tasty to eat. All bugs have different flavors to enjoy. Megan Miller said ‘‘ Crickets taste like nuts.’’ I tried a cricket and so did my class they don’t taste so bad as I thought they would. Some people liked a superworm and the chocolate-covered superworm.
Finally bugs are sustainable and require less resources. Bugs can help the earth because they can eat our scraps. They also require 1 gallon of water a pound. One pound of meat can be 2,000 gallons of water. They can be sustainable because they can last 5 months unlike meat which can rotten in a few days.
All in all bugs can be the new resource for our meals in the future.
