Bugs for Food

Food businesses are adapting us to put bugs into our diet! Jarrod Goldin, the co founder of Etomo Farms, believes that insects are very nutritious. To begin with, bugs are very nutritious because they are packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and protein. Also we tried eating bugs in our class after reading the article TFK of Bug Business. The article said that they require a lot less resources than cattle and pigs. One reason, is that they require less space because they eat our food wastes and are easy to raise on our own. For example, companies have made an insect bin to raise mealworms. Crickets would be cheaper to raise because to get one pound of protein one gallon of water is needed but for one pound of meat protein you would need two thousand gallons of water.  According to the people in TFK they are palatable; in other words it is very tasty. Katharina Unger, the creator of Livin Farms Hive, says that her hives can produce a pound of mild flavored mealworms in a week. All in all, I would agree to put bugs in our diet.

Mesopotamia map

The Tigris and Euphrates rivers supported the growth of Mesopotamian civilization. Mesopotamian is located between the two rivers ,the Persian gulf and the Mediterranean sea. Frequent floods let fresh silt making the land ideal for farming. Because the farmers were able to grow plentiful food, the worlds first civilization developed.
