Public schools are responsible for students’ safe travel to and from school facilities. Traffic and neighborhood safety are frequent concerns for school administrators and staff.
The EGUSD Safe Routes to School Program can provide assistance to help make travel to and from your school safer through:
- On-site traffic observations
- Organization of “Walk Audits,” a formal, multi-stakeholder review of transportation infrastructure around school sites
- School safety assemblies
- Provision of school-site data on injuries and mode of transportation rates
- Training for Walking School Bus leaders
- Coordination of bike helmet safety education
- Assistance with encouragement and education events like Walk to School Day, Bike to School Day, bike rodeos, and Active4me setup
