Progress Reports

The first trimester Progress Report is always a difficult one for teachers.  We have only been in school for five weeks and two of those weeks were filled with teaching the class procedures, getting to know each other, and assessing students.  Giving you a real idea of where your student is at this point is a challenge.  I will be sending out another Progress Report before we track off that will be a little closer to reality considering the class will have had more opportunities to show me what they can do.

Progress Reports reflect only a few grades recorded to date. The reading grades are skewed due to few reading grades recorded thus far; therefore, I have not included them on this report.  Moreover, the class focused on Science the first weeks of school and has only recently transitioned into Social Studies.  Consequently, a Social Studies grade is not included.

Next week:

ELA:  Spelling Unit 1, Week 4 r-controlled Vowels; Grammar – Complex Sentences

Math:  We will be finishing Chapter 2, Divide Whole Numbers

Social Studies: We will continue studying Early Civilizations in the US. Mountain States and their capitals (along with the correct spelling) will be quizzed on Thursday.

Happy mid-August

We welcomed two new students this week: Carylle and Lanaya

Week of August 15th:

English Language Arts: Wonders U1, Week 2 in reading; vocabulary skill is idioms; comprehension strategy: reread; comprehension skill:  problem/solution; grammar:  simple, compound, and complex sentences.

Spelling: U1, Wk 3:  words with different u sounds

Math: Chapter 2:  Divide Whole Numbers;  Lessons 2-2 through 2-5; Board Math quizzes are every Friday

Science: we will finalize Chapter 6: Our Solar System

Social Studies: We will begin Chapter 1:  Early People.  We will also start memorizing our states; beginning with the West – Pacific States.  A quiz is scheduled for Thursday.  Correct spelling of the states will count as part of their spelling grade.

Disclaimer: this is an approximation of lessons to be completed 🙂

Upcoming dates:

August 19th, Friday:  Progress reports (note:  due to practicing beginning of the year procedures, we have few grades in some subject areas to date)

Week of August 29th: Our class leads the Pledge of Allegiance for our morning announcements

September 9th:  track off; minimum day

Beginning of August :)

Wednesday folders went home today!  Please check the work and notices that are in the folders and return the folders.

We are still working in our Wonders text books on Unit 1, Week 1.  We are taking our time to learn all of the new components correctly and thoroughly.

Students are able to access both the GoMath! and Wonders curriculum on-line.  All students have accessed both websites at least once.  On both websites, their user names are their Student Identification Number (SIN; their 997 . . .)@egusd.net.

The Wonders website can only be accessed through the EGUSD portal:  http://portal.egusd.net

Tomorrow, Thursday is our field trip to the Discovery Museum.  Friday is a minimum day:  dismissal at 12:45 pm.  Due to the “shortened” time, we skipped assigning new spelling list.  Thus, next week’s list will be Unit 1, Week 2.

Upcoming dates:

Week of August 8th:  many tests:  Math chapter 1 Test, Science Chapter 6, Less 3 Quiz; Science Chapter 6 Test; Language Arts test

August 10th, Wednesday:   Scholastic Book Orders are DUE

August 19th, Friday:  Progress Reports/Deficiency Notices go home

Thanks again for all of the parent support and volunteer hours!
