August 15-19 Newsletter

Happy Friday,

We had a GREAT 1st week of school! I have very much enjoyed getting to know your children. I have been overwhelmed by your generous donations of classroom supplies. THANK YOU all so much for supporting our classroom!

Thank you for attending Back to School Night. I felt rushed so I hope I haven’t left you with any unanswered questions. It was great to meet all of you! It’s going to be a fantastic year!

Announcements & Reminders:
· Congratulations to Nicholas!!! He is our Student of Character this week. This month we are focusing on Respect. Nicholas is polite, uses good manners, listens while others speak, and follows directions. He is a great role model for his classmates!
· Picture Day is Tuesday! Your child went home with the order form today. All students will be photographed for our class picture, even if you do not plan to purchase photos.
· Sunrise folders go home each Wednesday. Please sign any items in the “Sign & Return” side of the folder and have your child return their Sunrise folder no later than Friday each week. If you find you have received another student’s work by accident, please just send it back and I will make sure it gets sent home. I do make mistakes and I thank you for your patience and understanding! J
· Every Thursday students are dismissed at 1:55 for Early-out staff collaboration time.
· If you need to pass along an important message to your child during the day and it’s after lunch (12:15), please call the office so they can make sure I get the message. I don’t always have time to check email between lunch and after school dismissal and I don’t want your child to miss an important reminder from you.
· Please do not use Remind for urgent messages as well, as I do not check my cell phone during class time and often not until after school dismissal and staff meetings. Email is always the best way to reach me before lunch and calling the office if it’s after lunch.
· Homework: The students are off to a great start with their Homework Agendas. Just a clarification on Homework: I will check parent signatures every Friday on the homework agenda so if you forget to sign it during the week, please just make sure to initial all days by Friday to indicate your child did their reading. They get credit each week for reading with your initials to verify they did the work. We will correct math in class each morning and the corrected math will go home in the Wednesday folder.

What are we learning this week?

In Language Arts we are kicking off our new program by settling into our classroom routines and establishing our procedures. We are enjoying a little bit of everything (reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, etc.). So far the students seem to really be enjoying our new program. Next week we will begin our Unit 1 theme.

In Math we are working on Chapter 1: Addition & Subtraction within 1,000.

In Social Studies we are studying Geography. We will learn about maps/map skills, landforms, and other exciting geography.

In Science we will begin learning about Biomes. We will explore the desert, grasslands, temperate forest, tropical rain forest, and arctic region.

Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Welcome to 3rd Grade!!!

Dear 3rd Grade Families,

Welcome to 3rd Grade! It’s my pleasure to be your child’s teacher! Back to School Night is August 9 in room C4 5:30-6:00 followed by a Principal’s Address in the MP Room 6:00-6:30. I can’t wait to tell you all about the great things that will be happening in the upcoming school year. To help get the year off to a smooth start below is some information for you:

The “Casey News” classroom newsletter will be sent via email each week on or before Monday. It’s very important to read the weekly news. It’s my way of keeping families informed about what’s going on in the classroom weekly. You’ll find lots of helpful information. If you do not have email and require a paper copy please notify me, otherwise all weekly news will be sent by email.

There are lots of important forms going home on the 1st day of school that need to be return. Please complete all forms and return them to school no later than Friday, August 12th.

During the 1st Trimester Progress Reports will be sent home weekly on Wednesdays in our schools “Important Papers Folder”, which will include your child’s completed class work. Please keep the work, review the progress report, sign the progress report, and return it along with the folder the following day. You will receive your first progress report the 3rd week of school.

Homework will be assigned nightly Monday – Thursday. Your child will be responsible for writing down his/her homework in the provided Sunrise Homework Agenda, which should be kept in his/her homework binder. Homework binders and agendas need to come to school daily. More details on homework procedures and expectations to come at BTSN.

Student Supply Donation: Please help your child have a successful year by sending them to school with the needed supplies. Please see the attached “Student Supply Donation List”.

Before school: School begins at 8:15. Students are to line up on the blacktop at our designated red dot #23 by 8:10 and be ready for the warning bell. Your child is tardy if they are not in line by the 8:15 tardy bell. To ensure your child’s safety, your child may not be dropped off at school prior to 8:10 unless he/she attends Champions Day Care or is having breakfast in the MP Room. There is no yard supervision prior to this time.

After school dismissal: All students are dismissed from our classroom door. Those children who are not picked up at the door walk to the front gate and are to wait for a parent/guardian in the pick-up zone. Due to the heavy traffic walking or bike riding is highly encouraged to minimize before and after school traffic. Please have a plan that your child is aware for after school dismissal! It’s best to designate a meeting place.

Lunch: All Sunrise students have been assigned a 4-digit lunch pin number. If you send your child to school with lunch money please make sure it is in an envelope or baggy labeled with the child’s first/last name, pin number , and teacher’s name. This is to ensure the funds are credited in the correct account.

I hope to see you all at Back to School Night! Thanks for your support – together we make a difference!
