End of Year News – Happy Summer Break!

Wow, I can hardly believe next week is our final week of the year! The end of the year is always emotional as I say goodbye to my kiddos but this year is particularly hard! I have absolutely LOVED teaching your children! They’re a very special bunch of kids… and you are a GREAT group of families! I’m sad to say farewell to Sunrise, a place that has been my second home for 10 years, but excited to help build a new school. McGarvey and Sunrise will partner for several events…  so I hope to see you all around the community! Thanks for sharing your kids with me… it’s an honor to be a small part of their journey!

Monday, June 19th is our final character awards assembly at 9:10. We will celebrate our Students of Character who are being recognized as Super Spartans for all three R’s (Respectful, Responsible, Resilient). We will recognize Emma, Angelica, Kingston, Leonardo, and Kate!

Tuesday, June 20th at 8:40 AM: Trimester 3 Academic Awards in the MP Room. If your child is receiving an award for attendance, academics, or effort for the 3rd Trimester, you should have received an email from me this morning (6/14/17).

Tuesday, June 20th following our academic awards assembly, please join us in our classroom, portable R5, from 9:20-9:50 for “The Solar System Saga”, our final reader’s theatre of the year! It’s going to be OUT of this WORLD!

Wondering what to wear for the “The Solar System Saga”???? Please do not go shopping. Below are suggested colors to wear. I ask that student wear plain shirts, no graphics or writing on their shirts. If you do not have a plain t-shirt,  a shirt can be turned inside out.  Below is just a guideline. Your child knows their assigned part in our performance. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Sun – red, yellow, or orange

Mercury – blue or red

Venus – red

Earth – blue or green

Mars – red

Jupiter – gray or brown

Saturn – tie-die or gray

Uranus & Neptune – blue

Narrators, Pluto, Cres, and Eris – any plain color

Moons and comets – white

Asteroids – brown or gray

Wednesday, June 21st 9:00-11:15 at Argonaut park: 3rd Grade Field day. Parent volunteers, please meet at our classroom door at 8:45. Students should wear sunscreen and hats to school as well as clothes they can play and get wet in. If you have signed up to bring a snack or water, feel free to send it in anytime. Thank you!!!

Please be aware, students will clean out their desks and bring home all their desk items on Wednesday — eeekk — they have a lot of stuff! J

Thursday, June 22, will be a fun filled day of MATH! Students will rotate though all the 3rd grade classrooms playing math games, doing math puzzles, and having a blast with math!

Our last day of school will be Friday, June 23rd! It is a minimum day, track change day, and school is out at 12:45. We will have a cozy movie morning and celebrate summer birthdays. If you would like to bring a treat for your child to share please let me know so I can plan ahead.

Summer Break:

Keep up the momentum by exercising the brain over summer break! What can you do while off track? Here is a list of optional activities to keep that awesome brain in shape:

  • Read, read, and read more, but most importantly read books in your AR level.
  • Log in to Think Central for extra Math Reteach & Enrichment practice. I’ve added lots of stuff to their “To Do” list. It’s my understanding students should have access to this over summer.
  • Log-in to Moby Max for other learning games. I’ve attached the log-in handout for your reference.
  • Mastering Math Facts is a critical skill for success in 4th grade math. Work on mastering the multiplication and division facts. There are loads of resources available online! I’ve attached the multiplication handout from earlier this year.
  • I LOVE Reflex Math. This is a fee based program, I think it costs about $35 per year. It’s a fun and engaging way to help students master their math facts, all operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide). Personally with my own daughter, she has had great success with this program!

I hope you enjoy a fun filled summer break!!! Best wishes in 4th grade!
