Happy Friday 3^rd Grade Families,

Our character of the week is Angelica!!! She has proven to be a Respectful Spartan! Thank you for being polite, having good manners, listening while others speak, and following directions! She serves as an excellent role model to her classmates!

It’s a VERY busy week our last week of school before we track off! I will be off campus on Tuesday for a Math Leadership day of learning and Friday for a personal day to watch my daughter in her annual school dance performance. Mr. Martin will be here both days as my sub.

You’re invited to our Morning at the Museum! Please join us on Thursday, March 2^nd 9:15-9:55 in room C2 for an interactive learning experience. Please arrive no later than 9:15. We will open our doors and begin right after our morning assembly. We will begin with student performances; arriving on time is greatly appreciated so student do not experience interruptions during their reader’s theatre performance! I hope each student will have a family member to showcase their hard work!

• Character Awards Assembly to celebrate our Responsible Spartans will be on Friday, February 3^rd at 9:10 in the MP room. We will recognize Abhi, Mya, Kate, and Angelica. All voted by their classmates as Responsible Spartans!
• Friday, March 3^rd is a Minimum Day! We go off track! Reports cards will go home on this day.

Off Track March 6 – April 5, we return on Thursday, April 6^th.

February 2017

• No School on Monday, February 20^th.

• Maidu Community Center Fieldtrip on February 21, 2017: There is rain in the forecast and this is partially an outdoor fieldtrip where students see artifacts in nature. The trip will take place rain or shine.  Students and volunteers should dress for the weather.  They will provide indoor activities if it is too wet or stormy outside but I really hope we can get out and see the Maidu artifacts.
• Tuesday, February 21, 2017 we begin the 3^rd and final trimester of 3^rd grade. New AR ZPD’s and goal will go home in Wednesday folders. The goal deadline for the 3^rd trimester will be June 9, 2017. Each student will need to earn an average of 1 ½ – 2 points per week. If students pace themselves they can definitely reach this goal.

The students have been studying the Native Americans of California and are eager to present some interesting facts and artifacts that they’ve gathered and created throughout their studies. The exhibit will be held in our classroom (room C2) and will be an informal exhibit that will contain a mixture of student presentations, artifacts, and other parent participation activities. 3^rd Grade families are invited to attend 9:15-9:45. We’ll begin after our Trimester 2 Academic Awards assembly and will conclude promptly at 9:45.

APEX Fundraiser: It was a blast!!!! Thank you for supporting this event. Students will be coming home with their fundraising envelopes to collect the money for all orders that were not submitted online. These are due no later than next Thursday, February 16^th.

• Fieldtrip on Tuesday, February 14, 2017: SHAPE – EGUSD Food Processing Plant. Parent volunteers, we depart Sunrise at 8:30 AM.

• Due to our fieldtrip on February 14^th, we will not have a class Valentine’s Day party. The students will however have an opportunity to pass out Valentine’s cards to their friends. If your child decides to bring in cards for the class, I ask they bring one for all of their classmates so nobody is left out.

• Friday, February 17^th is the end of the 2^nd trimester. All AR points are due by the end of the day on February 16^th.

Open House News (UPDATE): Due to multiple conflicts for A & D Track teachers, our Open House date has been changed to May 18^th. This is great news since this date is no longer a conflict with my training… so Open House will be on Thursday, May 18^th 5:00-6:30.

APEX Fundraiser: We kicked off our school’s largest fundraiser of the year, APEX Fun Run! We’re learning a lot, we’re having a GREAT time, getting some exercise, and raising money for our school! Keep the pledges coming!!! Our Fun Run is  on Thursday, February 9th. Our class will run from 8:30-9:15 AM. All students will get receive a FREE shirt to wear. I will keep these in class so we can decorate and wear on the day of the run . They can change into their APEX shirts on Thursday morning. The make this easy, perhaps you can remind your child to wear a tank under their shirt so they can quickly change in the classroom.

Thank you Mrs. Hatfield for giving your TIME and helping to get our door decorated. WE WON the door decorating context for K-3 – yippeee!!!!!!!!!!!!
