Casey News Jan. 30 – Feb. 3, 2017

Happy Friday Amazing Families,

I am on the EGUSD Math Leadership team. It’s been an amazing opportunity for me to grow as a teacher over the past couple of years but it does take me out of the classroom for professional development. Due to this and other trainings, I will be off campus and will have a sub several days in the coming months. In February I will be out 2/8, 2/15, & 2/28. I always try my best to secure a familiar sub so the students are in great hands.

Open House News: A & D Tracks are scheduled to have Open House on May 11th 5-6:30. Unfortunately this is a conflict for me due to my math leadership commitment. I have a mandatory meeting that I am unable to reschedule on this very evening. I really do apologize but due to this I have to reschedule our class Open House with the B & C tracks date so we will join them on Thursday, June 8th. I know this may cause an inconvenience for you with multiple children having to come for another evening event. I do not want our class to miss out on Open House… it’s one of my favorite events of the year!!! It’s the best solution I could find to the scheduling conflict. Thank you for your understanding!!!

Fundraiser!!! We will kick off our school’s largest fundraiser of the year, APEX Fun Run! Students will come home with their pledge lanyards on Monday. Please keep an eye out! This is a super fun and very important fundraiser for our school!

Please use the Home Connect feature to track your child’s progress towards reaching their AR goal. The link to Home Connect can be found on the Sunrise Elementary website or use this link: https://hosted17.renlearn.com/286588/HomeConnect/

Happy Friday 3rd grade families,

Today we enjoyed another fun Harvest of the Month. Out HOTM featured fruit was KIWI. The students learned about the amazing nutritional benefits of Kiwi. We then got to observe the color, texture, smell and the best part… the taste! 100% of the students report they like KIWI. Did you know you can eat the skin? It’s full of fiber! Kiwi makes an easy and healthy snack. Just wash it really well and it’s an easy to grab snack since it can be eaten like an apple. Did you know kiwi can stay fresh at room temperature for 2 weeks and an amazing 6 weeks in the fridge! YAY for KIWI!!!

Since we’ve learned about how a democracy works in our studies of Government, each week for the remainder of the year the students will get to vote for our Student of Character by voting for the classmate they think is a student of character. We will have 3-4 candidates for our weekly election. The students will vote by writing a persuasive paragraph providing me evidence for why they’ve voted for the candidate of their choice. We will tally the votes and the person with the most votes will be the winner!

Congratulations to Hannah!!! She is our Student of Character this week. This month we are focusing on Responsibility. Responsible students come to class on time and are ready to work.
