Trimester 1 Reflections & Trimester 2 Goals

Trimester 1 has been better than I thought. My goals were to get all A’s on every subject, which I think I achieved. But I also found some new goals that I need to achieve for Trimester 2. My goals for Trimester 2 are to take my time on my work and not rush through it, double-check my work before turning it in, to get better at comprehension, and not to save  projects for the last minute because then I don’t get enough sleep.

I hope I acheive all these goals in Trimester 2. 🙂

My Favorite Fruit is…

My favorite fruit is pomegranate. I love pomegranates because its sweetish sour and very juicy in the inside. Also, some cultures believed that it held legendary powers for centuries. In Ancient Egypt, they buried the dead with pomegranates believing it offered eternal life. The Greeks open pomegranates at wedding celebrations and in China, they ate candied pomegranate seeds for good luck. It is also a very healthy fruit. The following is going to be the health benefits of pomegranates.

Health Benefits of Pomegranates:

  • It keeps from letting “bad” cholesterol from oxidizing and causing hardening in the arteries.
  • Pomegranate seeds keep blood platelets  from sticking together and causing dangerous blood clots.
  • It offers protection against heart disease and cancer.
  • Compounds only found in pomegranates called punicaligans benefit the heart and blood vessels.
  • Punicalagins lower cholesterol and blood pressure and increase the speed at which heart blockages melt away.
  • Pomegranates keeps your teeth clean.
  • They are a great source of fiber.
  • They can help prevent arthritis.
  • They protect your skin.

Fridays

Fridays are my favorite days. Some reason they’re always sunny, which makes me in a good mood. Cloudy and gloomy days makes me grumpy and in a bad mood. On Fridays, I get to see all my friends, friends from this school and friends from other schools. Plus, I’m always happy on Friday. There’s also no homework and less work to do at home, which makes it feel like a weekend. I also get to see my dad during the day on Friday, which makes it better.During the week in my head I’m like: Is it Friday yet? I just love Fridays!

My Dream Place to Visit is…

My dream place to visit is Palestine. I’d love to visit Palestine because that’s where my favorite cousins live. Also, my favorite place, the Dome of  the Rock, is there. It has a dome on top made of gold and inside of it has pillars made of marble. What makes me love it more is it’s a little cultural, and I love cultural places. I even plan to live there when I get older. That’s because I’m from Palestine and I’ve been there like four times (twice when I was a baby, once when I was four and once when I was nine). Near the Dome of the Rock are markets selling their things outside. Last time, the markets were so crowded with tourists that it was hard to get around. There’s even this man that carries this huge bottle of this type of juice called kharroob. The last time we went there, my mom bought some from him. I just love going to Palestine and can’t wait till we go there next time.

Mobile Dairy Classroom

Today at the Mobile Dairy Classroom, we learned about cows and how we get our milk. There was this lady that showed us a cow named Snickers. It was 3 years old. She told us that a cow has only one huge stomach that has four chambers inside. The cow eats the hay, then it goes into the first chamber of the stomach, then the second. After the second it comes back into its mouth, and the cow chews it for the second time. Then it goes back into the stomach and the food goes through all the chambers and gets digested the way our food does to get energy. After that the cow produces milk. The lady then told us how to milk the cow by hand and what machine they use to milk  it instead by hand. Then she said that the milk is taken to a place where the milk is pasteurized and homogenized so the milk can be safe for people to drink. After that the milk is taken to stores and schools. After the lady finished, she answered questions and after that, she let us pet a calf named Daisy! It was so furry! I learned a lot at the Mobile Dairy Classroom.

 Facts About Cows:

-The male is called a bull, a female is a cow, and the baby is called a calf.

– Only the female can produce milk.

– A cow is an adult when its only 1 year old.

– Black and white cows are called holstein cows.
