cohs-culinary-10_2014-e1414622171462COHS Culinary Academy | On Wednesday, October 1, Culinary Arts Academy (CAA) students from Cosumnes Oaks High School (COHS) had the chance to assist caterers with serving guests at the official induction ceremony of the California Hall of Fame’s Class of 2014.

In preparation for the event, CAA students brushed up on their serving skills, as well as knowledge of the night’s honorees.

“Many of our students look to the inductees as their role models,” said Kerri Hock, CAA instructor. “In order to participate in the event, students needed to answer questions about the inductees so they would know who they were serving. This event not only gave them black-tie experience, but it also served a dual purpose where students could be inspired by the achievements of the inductees.”

The California Museum will be partnering with COHS CAA in the future and has added the academy to their preferred catering list for future events. The partnership and serving opportunity for the CAA students was made possible through Hock. Hock is a long-time friend of Lisa Ling, a board member for the California Museum and Brenna Hamilton, marketing director of the California Museum.

The 8th class of California Hall of Fame inductees includes: basketball superstar Kareem Abdul-Jabbar; civil-rights heroineCharlotta Bass; literary icon Joan Didion; legendary filmmakerFrancis Ford Coppola; community organizer Fred Ross, Sr.; environmental scientist Stephen Schneider; and social-activism innovator Mimi Silbert.
