Welcome and thank you for your interest in becoming an Always Learning community education instructor for Elk Grove Adult and Community Education (EGACE).

Always Learning is the community education division of Elk Grove Adult and Community Education. Always Learning offers a variety of affordable courses for personal growth, fun and enrichment.  This program is fee-based and receives no subsidized funding.  Programs are open to adults, 18 years of age and older—unless otherwise noted.

This information and the forms that follow are intended as a first step in your application process.   Please read the information below.  If you have any questions, please contact Therese Schultz, Project Implementor at:    (916) 793-2282

Proposal & Criteria:

Proposals must be submitted no later than October 15th for our spring catalog, which is distributed in the community the first week of January and covers January through June class offerings, and no later than May 1st for our fall catalog, which is distributed the first week of July and covers August through December class offerings. (These dates may change—please stay in contact with Therese Schultz.)

Most classes are offered at the main EGACE campus, located at 8401-B Gerber Road in Sacramento on Monday and Wednesday evenings between the hours of            6 pm – 9 pm, and on Saturdays between the hours of 8 am-4 pm.  However, when available, and economically feasible, EGACE may use other EGUSD schools and community sites.

Submitting a proposal does not guarantee that the class will be accepted or added to the EGACE course offerings. If added, there are no guarantees made that the course will run or automatically be continued.

Policies pertaining to Instructors:

Insurance

If you are paid as an Independent Contractor for EGACE, there are a few things you should know about liability and insurance.

It is important for you to understand that if you contract with EGACE/EGUSD as an independent contractor, EGUSD does not in any way provide you with insurance coverage. Therefore, if a liability claim occurs against you, you will be responsible for defending yourself. The EGACE/EGUSD will not defend or pay out on claims brought against a contractor of the District.  Liability insurance is highly recommended.

All offerings involving sports or fitness classes are required to provide a certificate of insurance with a minimum amount of $1,000,000 liability insurance naming EGACE/EGUSD as additional insured.

Background/Fingerprinting Checks

Contracted instructors who instruct classes for minors or seniors may be required to comply with a background check. Please include your social security number and date of birth on the instructor acknowledgement part of the proposal so a background check can be completed prior to the start of your class. You will be required to pass a fingerprint clearance.

Class/Program pricing

EGACE establishes program pricing. EGACE  pays 40% of fees collected to the instructor or an hourly rate to be determined during the interview.  Please remember to include material fees in your proposal. Material fees are not included in the split.

Minimum/Maximum Number of Students

It is very important to list the minimum and maximum number of students that you will teach. This is important for registration.  You will be contacted if the minimum number of students is not reached in time for the class to start.

EGACE reserves the right to continue the class below the minimum number of students if a fair and equitable agreement is reached regarding fees.

Equipment

Upon request and availability, the following equipment may be provided for your class: Easels, Dry Erase markers, Projector Screen, White Boards, VCR/DVD,

CD player; in most classrooms at EGACE, there will be a media cart that includes a document reader, laser projector and connectivity to a computer.

Facility Rules

Always Learning Instructors must follow all EGUSD and EGACE policies. These policies are printed in the EGACE catalog and can be found on the EGACE and EGUSD website.

Harassment in the Workplace

Harassment can be defined as any behavior that is disrespectful and causes discomfort to another person. Harassment, whether physical or verbal, destroys morale and impairs teamwork and workplace efficiency.  EGACE has a strong policy against any form or type of harassment to any person.

It is important for all persons to recognize that harassment based on any of the protected characteristics of race, color, religion, sex, age national origin, ancestry, citizenship, disability, veterans status, medical condition, marital status, and sexual orientation will not be tolerated.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

The ADA is federal legislation which gives civil rights protection to individuals with disabilities based on race, sex, national origin, and religion. It guarantees equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities in employment, public accommodations, transportation, local and state government service and telecommunications

Holidays

EGACE does not offer community education classes on EGUSD approved holidays.

Class Room Clean Up

All instructors need to clean up their class room.  EGACE rooms have multiple uses during the day and evenings and janitorial services are not always available.

Class Cancellations

Please notify the Project Implementor or School Secretary if you are not able to teach your class. If EGACE needs to cancel a class due to inclement weather, sickness, etc., you will be expected to hold the class at an agreed upon date and time.

If an accident occurs in your class, please follow the procedures below:

  1. Notify the Administrator- on-duty
  1. Complete and Accident Reporting Form (available from Administrator-on- duty)
