This Week…

Can you believe we have one more week of kindergarten in 2012?  Time flies when you are with great students!  Just a few updates on this last week before the holidays.

There will be no homework sent out this week.  Play a game (Uno, dominoes, matching games, etc…) and read some books in place of paper/pencil activities 🙂

On Monday the 15th, Mrs. Young’s class will be meeting with their buddies for a holiday treat.  Mrs. Arriaga’s class will meet with their buddies on Wednesday the 17th.

We will be having “Reindeer Day” on Thursday the 18th.  The students will be having a whole day of reindeer fun!  If you have any “stocking stuffers” please bring them in tomorrow, December 16th.

No Library this Thursday but please return any books you have at home on Wednesday.  We will not be checking out any books this week due to the holidays.

Thank you for all the donations and parent help for our “December Fun” days that we have had and will be having this next month.  We do appreciate all that you do to help us!!

Friday, Dec. 19th, our last day of school before our break, is an ALL EARLY DAY FOR KINDERGARTEN.  We will have school from 8:20-11:40.  Students can dress in pajamas that day if they would like.  Please be sure the pajamas will keep them warm and that they wear school shoes (no slippers please).  No backpacks or snacks are needed for this day.

We will also be having a short singing performance in the morning (Friday).

Please join us at 8:20 on the 19th, in our room (K3) if you are able to make it.

Rainy Days

On rainy days, Mrs. Arriaga’s class will be standing right outside our door for dismissal.  You may come right to the door to pick them up on these days.  If wind is also a factor, the gate to the Kinder playground will remain locked and students will be dismissed from the other door facing the quad.

We also have a little container for umbrellas so they do not come in the class.  Please make sure they get home as well.

Thank you!

Have You Seen the Gingerbread Man?

We have been reading a lot of Gingerbread Man/Baby/Girl/Bear/Friends Stories.  The students have helped us make a chart comparing the story characters and asking the dreaded question…did the gingerbread get eaten?  In some books the gingerbread character was eaten by the sly fox, and in other books not eaten!  Today we decided to make gingerbread in the classroom and then we went out to recess.  You’ll never believe what happened!  The Gingerbread Man ran away from our classroom and lead us all around the school!  We never did catch him.  Ask your child what happened when we came back into the classroom.

We love teaching Kindergarten!

Welcome Back! A Look at December

We hope you all had a great week off with your families and a Happy Thanksgiving!  Here is a look at what’s coming up this month…

We are continuing our unit in Language Arts called “The Wind”.  The stories and poems in this unit help the students understand that, although we can’t see the wind, it exists everywhere and affects people and the environment in many ways.

We will be needing some items for differents projects during December.  We will be sending out a sign up list from Sign Up Genius this week.  Please look for that and see if you can help out with any of the items or volunteer times.

Here are some dates for upcoming events…
12-17 Stocking Stuffers due (24 students-1 item each)
12-18  Reindeer Day
12-19  Kindergarten Minimum Day-All kindergarteners will have school from   8:20-11:40.  P.M. Kindergarten please make necessary arrangements for drop off and pick up if need be.
12-19  Last day of school before our winter holiday – Movie (Polar Express) and Spirit Day – Pajama Day.
1-5-2015  First day back to school in 2015 with more fun to come!

Stocking Stuffers

During this time of year, children sometimes like to bring small gifts for their friends.  Instead of doing a gift exchange, we are asking that students bring in 24 small items to give one to each child.   Place the gifts in a ziplock bag labeled with your child’s name so that we can have him/her disburse the gifts themselves.  Please send these items in by December 17th.   The items do not need to be expensive or extravagant.  Here are a few ideas:  pencils, erasers, stickers, or small trinkets.  No candy with peanuts or nuts please!

Bringing gifts in is an optional activity for our class.

Let us know if you have any questions.
