Homework Folders – Please Read!

Today your child will be bringing home their homework for the last time, they do not have to be returned.  The work packets included are not to be done before school is out.  If you wish, you may use them during the month of June to keep your child practicing.  Of course, we’d like to encourage reading/writing everyday, sight word practice, and letter/sound practice if needed.

Thank you!

Our Last “Music Through Play” with Ms. Tera

Jackson Nelson’s mom, Ms. Tera, came back to visit our class one last time to teach music through play. Here are some of the fun things they did on Monday:

  • They sang the solfeggio words and hand signs for Mi-Re-Do, Sol-Sol-Do, and Sol-La-Ti-Do. They were reminded what the musical notation looks like for these patterns on the staff.
  • We sang DO is home, Chords in Pieces: Red (Do-Mi-Sol), Blue (Do-Fa-La), and Yellow (Ti-Re-Sol), and sang our Primary Chord Song.
  • We reviewed and learned some songs that have our melodic patterns hidden in them: 3 Blind Mice, A Hunting We Will Go, and Johnny Get Your Haircut.
  • We learned what notes can do on a staff through some fun songs: Taking Baby Steps (notes going from a space to the next line or from a line back to a space), How to Skip (from a line to the next line or from a space to the next space – that’s a skip!), Dinosaur Song (skips and baby steps), and A Frog Went a-Hoppin’ (note that are leaps)
  • We reviewed the musical BUGS with their matching musical notes. Ask them to clap their bugs: Bug, Bug, But-ter-fly, But-ter-fly, Grass-hop-per, Grass-hop-per, Cat-er-pil-lar, Cat-er-pil-lar, Bee-tle, Bee-tle, SLUU-G!
  • We sang a song that we all know that has both musical bugs and a melodic pattern hidden it – B-I-N-G-O (Bee-tle But-ter-fly) And…Bing-Sol-La-Ti-Do-Do!
  • Echo Ed (my singing snake puppet) joined us again having us echo some rhythmic patterns and singing solfeggio too.
  • To end their fun, they did some classical music listening through a puppet show! They picked their favorite puppet show the Fox Hunt for us to do.
Ms. Tera wanted to thank you for the opportunity to teach music to your children. She enjoyed every minute of it!

Music Day

Display Heading - Musical Instrument - PISharing Day Tomorrow!!

We have been learning about teamwork and how it is so important to the world of music.  If you have a musical instrument at home that you could share with the class we would love to see it or hear it (toy instruments are okay).

Music With Ms. Tera

music thank youYesterday was our last music time with Ms. Tera.  She has come into the class each month to share her musical talents with us.  All the students love having her come.   We want to thank her for teaching our students the fundamentals of music in a fun and exciting way.  Ask your child about the songs they learned with her.
