Music Time Today :)

Jackson Nelson’s mom, Ms. Tera, came back to visit our class to continue to help the kids discover music through play! Here some of the fun things they did:

  • They reviewed some of the solfeggio words and hand signs for Mi-Re-Do and Sol-Sol-Do. They also learned a new one! Sol-La-Ti-Do. This cadence pattern was hidden in some of the songs she sang with them – Let’s Play Music, Johnny Get Your Haircut, V-A-L-E-N-T-I-N-E, and Rig-a-Jig, Jig. They even learned what the musical notation looks like for these patterns on the staff.
  • More fun with solfeggio by singing Clickety-Clack, our fun train song where our actions turned into solfeggio hand signs!
  • They learned that BUGS have their own rhythms that are fun to clap. Ask them to clap their bugs: Bug, Bug, But-ter-fly, But-ter-fly, Grass-hop-per, Grass-hop-per, Cat-er-pil-lar, Cat-er-pil-lar, Bee-tle, Bee-tle, SLUU-G!
  • They learned a new song that used one of the 3 Primary Chords -the Red Chord (Do-Mi-Sol). Ask them to tell you about Old Paint.
  • They did some classical music listening too through a puppet show! Ms. Tera gave each one of your children their own page of puppets to color and perform for you. Here’s a link to the music – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AssDQbaIP_I

Music is a lot fun, especially when you can learn all these great musical concepts through play!

Monday, Feb. 2 – Thursday, Mar. 5 – Off Track for D Track.

***Friday, March 6*** – Track on, our first day back in class.  Yes, it is a Friday.  We will be celebrating Read Across America in our classroom and with our buddies.  Students are encouraged to dress as their favorite character and bring in a book with that character to share.  There will be information coming out in our Wednesday Folders as well as reminders a few weeks before returning.

100th Day

We will celebrate our 100th day of school on Wednesday, January 14th.  This is a day of festivities that center on the number 100!  Please send 100 of a small item such as paper clips, beans, macaroni, pennies, shells, buttons, cotton balls, etc. to school in the bag in today’s Wednesday folder.  Take some time with your child to think about what would be reasonable items to count and carry.  Rice is too small and rocks may be too heavy.  Be sure to count exactly 100 with your child.  These items will be counted, weighed and measured before and during our 100th day celebration.  They will be returned after the celebration.

Items are due on Tuesday, Jan. 13th.

Please don’t send them until that date

Happy counting!   Mrs. Arriaga and Mrs. Young

This Week…

Can you believe we have one more week of kindergarten in 2012?  Time flies when you are with great students!  Just a few updates on this last week before the holidays.

There will be no homework sent out this week.  Play a game (Uno, dominoes, matching games, etc…) and read some books in place of paper/pencil activities 🙂

On Monday the 15th, Mrs. Young’s class will be meeting with their buddies for a holiday treat.  Mrs. Arriaga’s class will meet with their buddies on Wednesday the 17th.

We will be having “Reindeer Day” on Thursday the 18th.  The students will be having a whole day of reindeer fun!  If you have any “stocking stuffers” please bring them in tomorrow, December 16th.

No Library this Thursday but please return any books you have at home on Wednesday.  We will not be checking out any books this week due to the holidays.

Thank you for all the donations and parent help for our “December Fun” days that we have had and will be having this next month.  We do appreciate all that you do to help us!!

Friday, Dec. 19th, our last day of school before our break, is an ALL EARLY DAY FOR KINDERGARTEN.  We will have school from 8:20-11:40.  Students can dress in pajamas that day if they would like.  Please be sure the pajamas will keep them warm and that they wear school shoes (no slippers please).  No backpacks or snacks are needed for this day.

We will also be having a short singing performance in the morning (Friday).

Please join us at 8:20 on the 19th, in our room (K3) if you are able to make it.

Rainy Days

On rainy days, Mrs. Arriaga’s class will be standing right outside our door for dismissal.  You may come right to the door to pick them up on these days.  If wind is also a factor, the gate to the Kinder playground will remain locked and students will be dismissed from the other door facing the quad.

We also have a little container for umbrellas so they do not come in the class.  Please make sure they get home as well.

Thank you!
