Scarecrow Day

Hello Spartan Families!
Tomorrow is Halloween.  At Sunrise Elementary, students do not wear costumes to school.  Kindergarten classes celebrate the harvest and scarecrows and have a Scarecrow Day. Students and teachers are welcome to dress as scarecrows (jeans/overalls and plaid or T-shirt).  We will be doing many scarecrow activities tomorrow.  We look forward to scaring lots of crows away tomorrow!

If you have signed up to bring some items for our fun day, please send them in today.  Thank you!!

Welcome Back!

WELCOME BACK!!      We are looking forward to seeing you this Monday, October 27th!  We trust that you all had a nice off track time with your families.

Sunrise Elementary has started a canned food drive.  Students are invited to bring non-perishable itmes (cans, uncooked pasta, boxes of food like cereal, bags of food like dried beans, baby food) to the class.  If your child brings in 2 or more items, they may go to the treasure box!  We will be collecting food for the Food Bank until November 14th.  Let’s see how many boxes we can fill!

We will be sending out Scholastic Book Orders in the Wednesday Folder.  Book Orders will be due November 7th.  Remember you can order books by turning in the book order with a check or ordering online.

On October 31st we will be having Scarecrow Day!  We will be celebrating scarecrows and talking about the harvest. Students are not to wear Halloween costumes to school.  If your child would like to wear scarecrow clothes (jeans and a plaid/plain shirt) they may.   If you signed up to bring something for the class please have it in by Thursday.  Looking forward to seeing our volunteers on that day.

1st Grade Physical

Good morning Spartan Families!
In the Wednesday Folder, that was sent home yesterday, you probably saw the paperwork for the 1st grade physical.  It was sent home so you would have it to take to your child’s doctor the next time you have an appointment.  Before entering 1st grade this sheet needs to be filled out by a doctor.  You may have noticed it states the due date is today.  Please ignore this.  The paperwork is due before your child goes to 1st grade.

Homework

Today your child is bringing home their first of many books from our language arts program. Please find a special place to keep them and include this in the nightly reading homework. Have your child read the books over and over again for fluency. Here are some things to remember when reading these books: have your child point to each word as they read it; ask your child to find a specific sight word; ask them who, what, when, where, why questions for comprehension; use the sight words in the stories to say or write complete sentences. Create a positive experience so that your child will look forward to your reading time together.

Each night, your child will need to read for 10 min. and then record the title on the homework cover sheet. These books we send home can be used for their reading time or you may read others.

Please have your child write their name on each page of their homework themselves. Make sure they are writing with one capital and the rest lower case letters (as shown on the back cover of their folder).

Feel free to ask if you have any questions about our homework. Thanks!!
