Happy New Year!

Happy New Year

We hope you all had a lovely holiday with your family.  The students were so excited to be back with one another and we missed them too!

Here are a few things going on this month: The new Open Court theme is “Stick To It”.  We will be reading stories that will help our students understand that there are times where the only way to accomplish a task or solve a problem is to persevere.  To “Stick To It” and not give up.   Riding a bike or learning how to write their name are good examples of this.  We’ll be sending a special project to work on in Wednesday’s Folder and will post it here as well. Please return the form on Friday with their homework.

Our hundredth day of school is Wednesday, January 14th.  Our celebration will include counting, weighing, and comparing and contrasting 100 objects.  We will be needing volunteers to help us out and to bring goodies on this special day.  Please check our Sign Up Genius page to volunteer either in the classroom or to send something in.  Information will be sent home in Wednesday Folders about student collections and when they will need to be sent in.

Monday, January 19th, is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  There will be no school.

Tuesday, January 27th – Sunrise Skate Night hosted by Kindergarten 6-8 pm at “The Rink”

Wednesday, January 28th, report cards will be sent home in Wednesday Folders.

Friday, January 30th, is Track Change Day (minimum day) for us.  All kindergartners come on the a.m. schedule (8:20-11:50).   Please join us for some songs and awards in the morning from 8:30-9:00.  More information will be given as the day draws nearer.

February 2nd – March 5th – D Track is off.  We return on Friday, March 6th (yes, that is correct).

Another Reminder

Friday, December 19, is a minimum day for our Kindergarten (8:20-11:40 AM). We will be having a short singing performance at the beginning of class for all families to enjoy.  Please come join us if you are available.

No backpacks or snacks are needed tomorrow.  All students need to bring in tomorrow is their Wednesday folder.  We have homework folders and library books already.  We will also be providing a snack so no snack is needed.

It is also a school spirit day tomorrow – PJ Day.   Please be sure that all PJs are warm enough and school appropriate. For safety reasons, all students should wear regular shoes and not slippers. Thank you!

Have You Seen the Gingerbread Man?

We have been reading a lot of Gingerbread Man/Baby/Girl/Bear/Friends Stories.  The students have helped us make a chart comparing the story characters and asking the dreaded question…did the gingerbread get eaten?  In some books the gingerbread character was eaten by the sly fox, and in other books not eaten!  Today we decided to make gingerbread in the classroom and then we went out to recess.  You’ll never believe what happened!  The Gingerbread Man ran away from our classroom and lead us all around the school!  We never did catch him.  Ask your child what happened when we came back into the classroom.

We love teaching Kindergarten!

Friendship Feast!

Happy Thanksgiving Spartan Families!

Just a few reminders coming your way…

Tomorrow is our Friendship Feast in K3!  As we are having wonderful things being brought in for us, your child will not need to bring in a snack for school.  Both classes are a little shy on cultural dishes so if you could bring in something (peanut free) please bring it in.  We will need 24 scoops or spoonfuls for everyone to try a bite.  Thanks again for all you do for us!

On Friday, November 21st, we have a kindergarten minimum day.  ALL KINDERS have school from 8:20-11:50.  Please make any necessary arrangements for the change of times for P.M. students.  If you received an invitation to our awards assembly on Friday, we will meet in the library from 8:30-9:00 a.m.

**If your child has already purchased a ticket for the movie, How to Train a Dragon, please be sure to pick them up with the rest of the class at 11:50.  You will need to come back with them for the movie at 12:30.**

Next week is Thanksgiving Break so we look forward to seeing everyone back in class on Monday, December 1st.

We hope all of you have a wonderful, restful, and healthy Thanksgiving week filled with family, friends, and great merry making!
