Walk to School Day is a national event celebrated around the world every year in early October. In EGUSD, we call it Walk & Roll to School Day and almost all of the district’s elementary schools participate. Schools organize special group walking routes or “walking school buses” on this day. We also celebrate other non-motorized ways to arrive to school like bikes, scooters or skateboards with bike rodeos and safety assemblies. Walking and biking students are greeted in the morning at school with various festivities like music, incentive rewards, healthy snacks, and art projects. This is a great event to kickoff year-long active commuting programs!
