Week 4: Student Blogging Challenge

In a tiny, secluded candy shop a young, twelve year old girl had just bought a giant lollipop with all of her allowance. As she wandered into the street with her delightful sweet, she realized that she was utterly lost, despite the fact that her house was a mere two blocks away. The little girl had come from a wealthy family, but her father had been abusive. So she relished the time away from home and allowed herself a small, satisfied smile. Continually licking her lollipop, she meandered into a dark alley.

*RUMBLE!* a noise sounded in a nearby dumpster. Teeming with curiosity, she peered into it and saw a miniature and quite bedraggled bear. Then, completely surprising her, the bear stood on its hind legs and and spoke.

“Hello, fairest maiden. I am here but to seek nourishment. May you allow me to accompany you to your destination?”

“Sure!” the girl exclaimed, for she was in need of a companion to subdue the loneliness that had recently suffused her mind. With that, the bear brushed itself off and joined her on her stroll. Along the way, they came across a siamese cat chasing a small grey mouse.

“HALT!” yelled the bear.

“Huh?” the cat yelped picking up the mouse by its tail.

“Stop! What are you doing?” commanded the bear.

“We’re playing our daily game of chase.” replied the cat. “As you can see, I have won. Now it is the mouse’s turn to chase me.” Then, the mouse commenced to race after the cat as it streaked off into the distance.

“Wait!” cried the little girl. “Why don’t you join our party.”

“Sure.” the cat and mouse said with reluctance.

They set off at an even pace and eventually found the little girl’s house. The big, red front door loomed in front of them. Together, they went inside. In front of them was a horribly ugly and irritated demon. He pulled at his hair in frustration.

“What do you want?” the little girl called.

“They took it! They took my donut!” he bellowed.

“Really? I think I may have a donut.” the girl said. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a glazed donut. The demon gasped.

“A glazed donut! My favorite kind!” he squawked and seized the donut. “Off you go!” he said, and shooed them past. Beyond him was a lake where a gigantic turtle waited. The turtle agreed to let them ride on his shell across the lake for a piece of the girl’s lollipop. She broke off a piece and gave it to him. For three hours the turtle swam,  and they reached a barren desert. A camel sat on the edge of the shore, lapping up the water.

The camel took one look at their group and said, “If you wish to reach where I think you are going, it is that way.” he said, pointing north.

“Thank you.” the little girl replied earnestly.

They traveled on. And, eventually, the desert morphed into the little girl’s home. She glanced over at her mother, who was enjoying her time playing the saxophone. Divorce papers lay at her mother’s feet. Her mom stopped playing the saxophone and said, “Honey, let’s go to the park.” The little girl left the room, the floor strewn with a teddy bear, a stuffed turtle, a camel statue, and a plastic mouse cat toy. All being silently watched by the little girl’s pet siamese cat.

  2. Hello Zoe,
You a very creative imagination. I thought it was really cool how in the end all the characters were just toys that the girl and cat were playing with. I also love your blog title. “Just a girl with destiny on her side”, very inspiring. Anyway, I also have a blog that you can check out at https://gabriella468.blogspot.com/.
    Happy Blogging,
    Gabriella

  3. Hi Zoe,
I had an interesting time reading an adventure of a little girl trying to find her way home while listening to Beyonce. The story had a more serious beginning and ending, but had an overall fun plot. A girl is lost and is trying to find her way home with a bear, cat, mouse, turtle, and camel who in the end are just toys and it was all just in her imagination. I hope to see another story like this in the future.
    Have a nice day.
