Students learn to type using typing.com with instruction and support from the instructor. Typing.com can be used anywhere there is an Internet connection. Typing.com uses a sequenced approach and new keys are introduced in a way that builds upon previous lessons. Students should focus on accuracy before speed. End of the year goals by grade level:
3rd Grade-8 words per minute
4th Grade-12 words per minute
5th Grade-15 words per minute
6th Grade-20 words per minute
LESSONS can be done anywhere: the lab, your classroom, library, at home, etc. Lessons and tests MUST be taken under the student’s teacher assigned account to count. Click the Typing.com link to get to typing.com and sign in using the user name and password assigned by the teacher at the beginning of the year (or assigned when the student enrolls if student enters midyear).
For TESTS, only those taken in the computer lab (at the prompt of the teacher) count. Every test is time/date stamped.
Goals & Expectations:
3rd graders
- FINISH at least ONE (1) SECTION (Must begin in the beginner section.)
- Take a 1 minute (or more) TEST on typing.com DURING computer class with at least 8 wpm AND 95% accuracy
4th graders
- FINISH at least the first TWO (2) consecutive SECTIONS (Beginner/Intermediate)
- Take a 1 minute (or more) TEST on typing.com DURING computer class with at least 12 wpm AND 95% accuracy
5th graders
- FINISH at least the first TWO (2) consecutive SECTIONS (Beginner/Intermediate)
- Take a 3 minute TEST (or a 1 minute TEST at teacher discretion) on typing.com DURING computer class with at least 15 wpm AND 95% accuracy
6th grade:
- FINISH at least the first TWO (2) consecutive SECTIONS (Beginner/Intermediate)
- Take a 3 minute TEST (or a 1 minute TEST at teacher discretion) on typing.com DURING computer class with at least 20 wpm AND 95% accuracy
There are FOUR total sections with lessons.
Typing Hall of Fame…if you have achieved 55 or 60 words per minute with 95% accuracy on a test (even 1 minute), you will be added to our Typing Hall of Fame. Your name will remain there for as long as Mrs. Brooks is the Computer Resource Teacher at Zehnder Ranch!!!
