How many colors do you think you can see? Go ahead, take a guess. The average human can see about 1 million colors. There are 18 decillion in the world. That in number form is 18,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. Compared to the 1,000,000 that we can see. But we are not the worst animals to see color. Cats have similar color seeing abilities as a mild colorblind human. Their vision is a little more foggy and the colors are more pale. Dogs, however, are worse. They can only see a few colors and the rest are black and white. The best animal to see color is the mantis shrimp. They can see at least 10 times more than humans. So the next time you think about your favorite color, remember there might be one you like more but just can’t see.
