Halloween

Today I learned things about Halloween I never knew before. First of all, the word “Halloween” comes from the holiday “ All Hallows Eve.” According to history.com it states “The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating sweet treats.”

Secondly, on Halloween, people would dress up and make loud noises to scare away evil spirits. On www.ducksters.com it states “They would dress up in costumes and make noise in the streets in order to make the spirits go away. “

Finally, Halloween has Irish roots. In the text of www.familyeducation.com it says Originally known as Samhain, which means “summer’s end” in Gaelic, many Halloween customs and traditions have roots in pagan beliefs and Irish folklore.”
