Earth Day Is Every Day

We celebrate the earth every day as part of our TK curriculum…. soil, worms, caterpillars, butterflies, and plants.  Please take a closer look…

Worm Composting – We compost our food scraps and feed our worms.  The worms make rich, dark compost for our fall and spring planting.

Gardening – We planted lettuce, beets, and carrots in the fall.  We just planted our flower seeds last week….they are now starting to grow!

Flowers – Taking a Closer Look

Pipevine Swallowtail Butterfly – The Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly lays its eggs on the tender leaves and stems of the California Pipevine plant.   The eggs hatch into caterpillars and feed on the pipevine  leaves, transforming into a chrysalis through the winter and finally emerging as a Swallowtail Butterfly in the spring.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss – March 2, 2016

We celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday with reading, sorting, counting, and fun!  Can you believe Dr. Seuss would have been 112 years old this year?

We read many Dr. Seuss books including 1 Fish, 2 Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. We counted fish, graphed fish, and put red and blue fish in a fishbowl.

We read The Foot Book and measured with our feet.

We read The Cat in the Hat.

We made the Cat’s hat with bananas and strawberries.

Oh, wait….is that a ten frame?  Five plus four more…5 + 4 = 9

Then we made a pattern to make the Cat’s hat!

Love and Kindness

Love is in the air as we return to school after a long winter’s nap. (We’re so happy to be back after a six week break!) We celebrated Valentine’s Day and Kindness Week with the letter V.
