How Do You Get to School?
-
Elk Grove Unified School District encourages students and families to walk and bike to school. Research shows that students who take "active" transportation to school have higher levels of concentration, academic performance, and regular attendance than their counterparts who travel by car.
Other benefits of walking and biking to school include:
- Improved student fitness - providing an average of 16 of the 60 minutes of physical activity students need daily
- Decreased traffic congestion around schools
- Cleaner air
- Stronger community connections
The District's Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program supports staff, parents and students in their efforts to increase safe walking and biking at individual school sites.
