Composition Rules
Rule of Thirds: Placing the main subject at one of the intersecting grid lines for the purpose that the eye of the viewer is automatically drawn there.
Balancing Elements: to create a more unique photo place your main subject off center as you would with the rule of thirds, also add an object to fill the rest of the space in the photo to create balance.
Leading Lines: think about how to place objects or choose your viewpoint based on the direction of lines because they can create a journey for the viewers eye.
Symmetry and Patterns: think about photographing scenes that have equal image on both sides. but introduce objects that create tension and throw off the viewers eye.
viewpoint: the place where you take the image from. rather than shooting from eye level you can get on the floor and point the camera up at your subject or get on something tall and shoot your subject from above.
Background: photographing your subject in a plain scene maybe in front of a white wall. or cropping out your subject and putting it on a black image.
Depht: including objects in all foregrounds, the front the middle and the back. it creates an obscure image with lots to look at.
Framing: allowing your subject to be in between two objects that create a frame around the picture like trees.
Cropping: cutting out excess space around your subject to create more focus and attention.
Experimentation: take pictures of anything and anything to see if you can create or find a new composition and take advantage of the fact that you can take tons of pictures, view and delete the unwanted ones in an instant.
Montage
A photomontage is the technique of making a picture by assembling pieces of photographs, often in combination with other types of graphic material.
David Hockney is an important contributer to the pop art movement in the 1960’s and is considered one of the most influential british artists of the 20th century. Here are some examples of his photomontages:
cubism is a nonobjective school of painting and sculpture developed in paris in the early 20th century, characterized by the reduction and fragmentation of natural forms into abstract, often geometric structures usually rendered as a set of discrete planes.
Paul Klee is a famous cubist painter and his work looks similar to photo montages. here is an example:
Cubism paintings are like photomontages in that they have the same idea. photomontages are made with many different pictures put together to make one image and cubist paintings are made up of many squares of painting to make one image.
Article
The artist that inspired this was Frida Kahlo. She was a surrealist painter. her artwork was very much inspired by the new science of psychology. her work is emotional and explored the buried images, memories and symbols of her own subconscious mind.
Here is some of her paintings:
these are the paintings that inspired my Photoshop image and the story behind these paintings are that she was going through some tough times with her husband and they were all she could think about so that’s the reason the put him on her forehead. to represent that she is always thinking about him.
I liked the idea behind the paintings so I took a selfie and added a flower crown as she had something similar to that in the second painting. then I added a picture of Matt Healy’s face to my forehead because he is someone I think about a lot.
before I took the selfie I would’ve cleaned my eye makeup a little bit because it draw unwanted attention to my eye and photoshop wouldn’t fix it. I do like how it came out but the lighting but the different colors of skin tone on matt and I looks a little weird as well.
Pick A Something Collage
Zombie Christmas poster
the process that went into this poster was first choosing a picture. I had to make sure that all of the characters were looking in the right direction. I had to pick a photo that everyone was in the right position that went with their roles in the play. I then added some vibrance and took away light from the image to make it look more like winter and to give it that dark vibe.
