Origin Of The Dragon

Hello there! My name is Rayhona and today I will be telling you about dragons and where they came from. As many of you may know, dragons are large serpent-like creatures. Dragons are typically described as winged, horned, four-legged and some have the ability to breathe fire. In Chivalric and Christian traditions, a dragon symbolizes evil while in the Orient, it symbolizes power, wisdom, strength, and hidden knowledge. Now you may be wondering, who came up with dragons? Where did the legend start? Before I tell you that, I just want to make something clear. DRAGONS ARE NOT REAL!!! Some of you may think they are, but they’re not! Anyways, back to my explanation of dragons. There are many different things that happened which resulted in the birth of the legendary dragon. One event that caused the legend of the dragon to happen was scientists and ancient people digging up dinosaur bones and misinterpreting them. Some people may have assembled the bones of dinosaurs incorrectly which caused them to believe that winged beasts such as dragons existed. This may come as a shock to most people, but one of the things that convinced people to believe dragons existed are whales. I know right? Who would’ve guessed? Whales are sea creatures and aren’t able to fly like most dragons can. Although, in the past we weren’t as advanced as we are now and if people from the past were to have found whale bones, they would have had no way of knowing that they were sea-based. Since whales are so big, ancient people could have thought that they were predatory. Whales spend most of their time in the water and because of that, they were very poorly understood for a long time. Now here’s something that really got me interested in this topic. People could’ve believed in the existence of dragons because of their own brain! Apparently, belief in dragons is so widespread among ancient cultures because evolution created a natural fear of predators in the human mind. Animals such as snakes like pythons, birds of prey, and surprisingly to me, elephants, have been combined to create the legend of the dragon. This is all I have to tell you for now, but make sure to check out my other writings and be on the look out for any future posts.
