(Dedicated to our wonderful secretary, Jakki Bateman)
They say that
“Home is where the heart is”
And you are our heart.
You are the welcoming front door
Open to a never ending stream
of friends and strangers.
You are the warm fire
Burning in the stone hearth,
Always there
With a kind word
Or deed,
A listening ear,
And a smile.
You are the windows
Through which the Prairie breezes
Dance,
While the wind may tease the gingham curtains,
You are unruffled by sudden gusts,
Unexpected storms,
And even the occasional tornado that rolls by.
You are the sturdy wooden floor
That supports us
In a million different ways,
Strong, yet flexible.
Every day,
You are the hand-hewn walls
That wrap around us like a comforting hug,
Whenever we need it –
You there for us
A shoulder,
A friend,
Someone to laugh with…
And You are the roof over our heads
Keeping us safe,
Keeping this school together,
Though so many changes and challenges.
They say,
“Home is where the heart is”
And you have the biggest heart of all!
