Students Awarded for Following the National Quality FFA Standards, Which Includes Aspects of Growing Leaders, Building Communities and Strengthening Agriculture
ELK GROVE, Calif. – September 10, 2021 – Elk Grove Unified congratulates Sheldon High School’s and Florin High School’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapters for being named Star Chapters for 2021 National Chapter Award by the National FFA Organization. Sheldon FFA and Florin FFA are two out of 20 chapters in California to be named Star Chapters for 2021. The National Chapter Award Program is designed to recognize FFA chapters that actively implement the mission and strategies of the organization. These chapters improve chapter operations using the National Quality Chapter Standards (NQCS) and a Program of Activities (POA) that emphasize growing leaders, building communities and strengthening agriculture.
Sheldon FFA, Florin FFA and other chapters that received star ratings will be recognized at the 94th National FFA Convention & Expo, October 27-30, 2021.
“Our students work so hard to help our school and community whenever possible. These students deserve the best, and Alexus Hong (Sheldon FFA Advisor) and I are working hard to provide as many opportunities as possible to help our students develop leadership skills and become better prepared for their future careers,” says Chelsey Schnider, SHS Ag Department Chair.
“The FFA has been more than an organization to me. It has been a family and safe place for students bringing fun, educational advancement, and endless opportunities that are valuable in life,” says Salvador Castaneda, Sheldon FFA Class of 2021.
Chapters are rewarded for providing educational experiences for the entire membership. In order to qualify for a national award, chapters must complete at least 15 activities: one for each of the five quality standards in each of the three divisions. Additionally, the chapter must meet the minimum requirements as outlined in the National Quality Chapter Standards. Sheldon FFA has demonstrated these standards through leadership conferences, guest speakers, industry field trips, community service activities, public speaking competitions and more.
