EL Students Lauded for Being Most Improved in English Language Proficiency, Academic Excellence and/or for Perfect Attendance and Excellent Citizenship
ELK GROVE, Calif. – May 13, 2021 – The Elk Grove Unified School District congratulates the 66 students for receiving this year’s English Learner Award. An English Learner Award recipient receives a nomination based on being most improved in English proficiency and/or academic excellence, having had perfect attendance and/or citizenship or because they showed best effort in school. The District’s English Learner Services department will share a personalized virtual presentation with each school site to share with the recipient. Superintendent Christopher Hoffman shared in staff and student enthusiasm saying, “We are very proud of each of you. Your unique views and perspectives add to the multilingual and multicultural fabric that is the Elk Grove Unified School District.”
The Elk Grove Unified School District values the assets its multilingual students bring to its schools and community. With more than 112 languages spoken across the District, everyone learns more about each other culturally and linguistically, inspiring other students and staff to learn more languages. The English Learner program is an excellent way for every student to better appreciate and fully engage in the rich and varied cultures and languages in California, leading to them finding more success in the global economy.
Note: Two students opted not to disclose their names publicly.
