Area 3 Board Trustee Mr. Madison Set to Retire After Having Served for 20 Years as a Champion of Diversity and Equity
ELK GROVE, Calif. – December 11, 2020 – The Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) heartily thanks board member, Chet Madison, Sr., for 20 years of service representing Trustee Area 3, the Valley High Region. Mr. Madison expressed his retirement plans earlier this year and during the November 17, 2020 EGUSD Board of Education Meeting, the Superintendent and fellow board members reflected on his many contributions to public education for thousands of students.
Superintendent Christopher R. Hoffman recognized Mr. Madison saying, “I am honored to recognize and thank Mr. Madison for his 20 years for service on the Board of Trustees as well as many other years of service to the schools in many positions. Mr. Madison has literally seen some of the best of times in the history of the school district. He’s also been part of the most challenging times. Through all of that, he’s carried himself with distinction, and always put the students and the staff first. We greatly appreciate that.”
Superintendent Hoffman continued noting, “I’ve known Mr. Madison since I walked the halls at Valley High School, just a few years ago [jesting], and it’s been my privilege to work alongside him for the last six years as superintendent. He provided me with encouragement and was always open to listen to ideas and provide a perspective that I’ve valued greatly. Thank you Mr. Madison for your leadership and your support. I wish you all the best.”
At the conclusion of statements made by Superintendent Hoffman and fellow trustees, Mr. Madison said, “I never thought I would end my last year of office here on [a] Zoom meeting and dealing with a pandemic. There are times that I feel like I need to stay and get through this pandemic and help the Board, but on the other hand, I felt that we got the right people working hard. We have amazing staff, and collaboration must continue to take place. This isn’t the end. I hope we can get together. My love will always be with Elk Grove Unified School District. I’ll be around.”
