Families that Qualify Will Receive Curb-Side Meals During EGUSD’s Distance Learning Period

ELK GROVE, Calif. – July 31, 2020 – The Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) will offer students with a curb-side meal service during the start of the 2020-2021 school year. Beginning on Monday, August 3, lunch and breakfast meals will be available for pick-up for students enrolled at a school on the year-round (YR) schedule. Students that attend a school on either a Traditional (T) or Modified Traditional (Mod. T) school calendar schedule may start picking up meals on Thursday, August 13. Meals should be picked up at a student’s school of enrollment. For students who attend a school that is not offering Curb-Side Meal Service, meals may be picked up from a school within the same region. Below, is a list of participating schools.

  • Meal pick-up is available Mondays through Fridays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
  • Meals should be picked up at a child’s school of enrollment or school within the same region. If a family has multiple EGUSD students, meals may be picked up from the school where the majority of the students attend.
  • Proof of enrollment at an EGUSD school will be required.
  • Meals will be pre-packaged, cold meals to be consumed at home. Families will be offered a choice of meat or vegetarian option.
  • Qualified students that are eligible for free or reduced-price meals will be waived the meal price of either $1.75 (breakfast) or $2.75 (lunch).
  • Curb-side meal service will continue as long as Full Distance Learning is in effect.

Students do not need to be present for families to pick-up meals. However, families must provide proof of the child’s enrollment during the initial meal pick-up. Proof of enrollment must include the student(s) name and/or student ID(s). Acceptable forms of proof of enrollment include a student identification card or number, report card, class schedule, ParentVUE student information and/or enrollment documents. Families will then receive a validation form that lists all children eligible for meals through the curb-side meal program that may be used for all future meal pick-ups once the student(s) is validated. Due to federal requirements, meals will only be available to school-aged children, enrolled at an EGUSD school. Children not enrolled in school will not be eligible for meals. Pending an updated joint announcement from the Sacramento County Office of Education and Department of Public Health, families will be notified of meal service adjustments once campuses reopen.

Additionally, the Back-to-School Curb-Side Meal Service also requires the Department of Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) to account for a child’s meal based on their eligibility status in the Free and Reduced-price Meal Program. Children who qualify for free or reduced meals will receive meals at no-cost. Families must have a new application on file to qualify for free and reduced-price meals each new school year. Families may submit an application on-line at http://blogs.egusd.net/fns or by completing a paper application and returning it to the Department of FNS (in-person or by mail) or to any school site listed below. EGUSD mailed paper applications to all families in July 2020. Families will receive notification by mail of eligibility of the Free or Reduced-price Meal Program for the school year.

Children not eligible for the Free or Reduced-price Meal Program are welcome to purchase breakfast meals for $1.75 and lunch meals for $2.75.

Please review these Guidelines during Meal Pick-up.
