Virtual Graduations Offer New Approach to Celebrating Grads Where Families Can Customize the Fanfare at Home per their Individual Customs and Traditions
ELK GROVE, Calif. – May 15, 2020 – The Elk Grove Unified School District announces its virtual graduation ceremony plans for the Class of 2020. Due to the current Sacramento County Public Health Order of social distancing and to avoid scheduling events with large crowds, Elk Grove Unified moved forward with virtual graduation ceremonies to celebrate the District’s more than 4,500 graduates.
In his graduation speech to the graduates, Superintendent Christopher R. Hoffman shared, “Class of 2020…you will always be remembered as one of the most amazing groups of students who witnessed first-hand a global crisis with the threat of the novel coronavirus. We aren’t out of the woods yet, but there is no one I’d rather walk forward with into an uncertain future than the Class of 2020.”
The virtual graduation ceremonies will be posted online and will take place starting Tuesday, June 2nd through Friday, June 5th. How to access and watch each event will be posted on each school’s websites and the District’s website at least the day prior to the scheduled ceremony. Associate Superintendent for Secondary Schools, Craig Murray added, “I am very pleased with our virtual graduation productions and while we usually record the graduation ceremonies every year, this year’s presentation is very unique.”
Depending on the guidance and consultation of county public health and safety experts, Elk Grove Unified still intends to hold an in-person graduation ceremony and continues to plan, examine and discuss multiple scenarios for creating such an event. The District realizes that students and families will want to plan to attend an in-person event and whether the event will be held in June or July remains to be determined.
Recordings of any one of the comprehensive high schools (nine) or alternative high schools (five) graduation ceremonies scheduled from June 2, 2020 to June 5, 2020 are available for purchase. Visit EGUSDGrads.com to complete an order form for a DVD and pay $20.00 (plus a $1.50 shipping and handling fee).
