ELK GROVE, Calif. – March 27, 2020 – Today, the Sacramento County Office of Education announced that the Sacramento County Public Health Order to close school buildings to the public will be extended to, at the earliest, May 1, 2020.
The Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) will continue with its launch of EGUSD Distance Learning, which begins April 16th for secondary students and April 20th for elementary students. School buildings will remain closed to the public, per state and county orders, and EGUSD will be ready to go live remotely with EGUSD Distance Learning by mid-April. Essential district staff will be taking care of the schools and business. The EGUSD drive-through meal service at select schools and the mobile meal program will continue.
Instructions for the EGUSD Chromebook check-out process will go out to all District parents on Monday, March 30, 2020. The District wants to ensure that everyone who really needs a Chromebook is able to get one. To conduct the EGUSD distance learning program, a computer and Internet will be needed. The computer can be a Windows PC, Mac, Chromebook, Linux PC or iPad. Checked-out Chromebooks will need to be returned at the end of the school year.
EGUSD is working to secure over 8,000 T-Mobile hotspots. However, wifi access will be limited to student access only. The District is encouraging families who qualify, to follow-up with three providers in the area who are offering low-cost or limited-time no-cost service to qualifying families. The providers and programs are Comcast Essentials, AT&T Access and Consolidated Communications. Frontier Communications is another provider in the local area and they can be reached to learn about their service plans. For more information about local providers with discounts for families that qualify, please go to EGUSD Internet Access Resources. The advantage of using one of the providers is that more people in the home can have access to the Internet. By only relying on a District hotspot, only the student will be able to use the Internet connection.

- April 6 – April 10: Spring Break – Non-instructional Week
