Florin High School had a visit on Wednesday January 6, 2016, from Nina Davuluri — Miss America 2014. She came as a part of her ongoing effort to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education and because of the diverse Panther student population. During her reign as Miss America in 2014, Nina Davuluri advocated for STEM education, and during her visit Ms. Davuluri had an opportunity to interact with students, encourage young women to pursue the sciences and visit Ms. Heidi Haugen’s class to discuss the project they are working on and the findings they have made. The visit was made possible through a collaboration between Ms. Haugen, the California Council on Science & Technology and the California Teacher Advisory Council.
