Jog-a-Thon

Our Wednesday Jog-a-Thon was a great deal of fun.  We have a whole class full of enthusiastic runners.  We all ran for a full ten minutes and nearly half  the class wanted to keep going!  We were cheered on and misted by parents and big kids. They even made a tunnel for us to run through.  The full set of the photos will be uploaded to Shutterfly shortly.  You won’t want to miss those pics!

So far our class has raised nearly $200! That’s very impressive, I’d say. But don’t feel left out if you forgot to turn in your envelope.  There is still time to collect pledges and turn them.

Shutterfly Links

Check out the tabs above marked Photoblog and Volunteers. Both tabs will take you to a link to our class Shutterfly site. I have updated my Shutterfly account to cover activities and volunteer needs for the first trimester, including dates on the Shutterfly calendar. I know I had spoken at Orientation of using a different website for various needs, but I decided to keep it all in one place. I hope you find it simple and efficient to use. Please let me know how it goes for you.

Thanks for Coming!

iphoneJune 017We had a full classroom during our Open House on Thursday evening. I always love this time of year when the students have gained so much confidence and knowledge that they can now teach others. I think several parents were amazed that Kindergartners know about algorithms and computer programming. It certainly looked like everyone was having fun with all the activities. What did you think of the cole slaw made from our very own garden? I saw several students go back for seconds! Check out our Twitter feed for pictures and tweets from the evening.

Memory Books

Thanks in major part to Mrs. Engel-Larot (Anika’s Mom) there will be a lovely Kindergarten Memory book for every student at the end of the school year. A few families have not yet provided a donation ($7.00) to cover the cost of materials. I have not sent a reminder in quite a while. Please send your donations this week.

We are in need of a parent who can take a special photo of each student to include in the Memory Books. I have the props and camera, I just need a helper. Let me know if it will be you!

Learning to Code

download (1)Today we had our first experience with computer programming.  Our Big Buddies met us in the computer lab and we began our online lessons at code.org.  This is a fantastic way to work on so many many skills.  We had a great time!  We hope to make this a regular activity.  More importantly, everyone can work on code.org from any device at any time.  I will send home a special card on Friday in your child’s homework folder.    This card has the URL needed to log on to our class at code.org and your child’s secret picture password.  Keep it in a safe place. I have printed them in color and laminated these cards.  I will not be able to replace them.  A clever idea is to take a picture of the card with your phone so you have a handy copy.  Enjoy!  Check out more pics on our photoblog.

Howdy!

Our travels to the Western Territories were less than treacherous and more than exuberant! I overheard many students say, “This is HARD, but it’s so FUN! Our pioneer spirit was challenged and encouraged throughout the day as we attempted to craft and play just as thousands of pioneer children did on the Oregon Trail in the 1840s.

Thank you to our many volunteers who participated before, during, and after the event. I could not do this without you. You have created a memory that will be treasured by every child who joined us. I hope you enjoyed yourself, too.

The photos have been posted to our Shutterfly account. You can order prints or even create a photobook from there. Just click on our Photoblog tab and follow the instructions. I will resend our password in an email, in case you have misplaced it.
