When major events happen in novels, the author usually gives the reader hints about these events before they actually happen. This is called “foreshadowing.” In Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson, something tragic happens at the end of chapter ten, “The Perfect Day.” Name some examples of foreshadowing that Ms. Paterson uses to give us hints about the tragic event that happens at the end of Chapter ten.
Spoiler Alert! Don’t read if you haven’t finished Chapter 10 of Bridge to Terabithia!

The foreshadowing of Leslie’s death, of chapter eight is when Leslie
goes to church with the Aarons family. She tells Jess and May belle
that she doesn’t believe in the bible. So May belle kept telling Leslie
“What if you die Leslie?” For chapter nine’s foreshadowing of Leslie’s
death is when rain is pouring hard then the creek gets fuller and fuller of water. Jess is really scared something might happen to him or Leslie if they keep crossing that creek to Terabithia. Finally, pour chapter ten foreshadowing is when Leslie dies. Jess went on a trip with his teacher, the love of his life, .When he comes home, he finds out that Leslie has died. She died when she swung on the rope over the creek to show she didn’t need him to be with her at Terabithia. When she was swinging the rope broke and she must have hurt her head and fell into the creek.

In “Bridge to Terabithia,” Katherine Paterson uses details to show when Leslie Burke is going to die. In chapter one, an event happened when May Belle says “A new family is coming!” and Jess thinks it is going to change his life. In chapter four, it informs that when Jess and Leslie are beginning to build Terabithia, Leslie says that it is going to be in the woods, and nobody will be able to discover it. Jess thinks that “I don’t like this place, it is dangerous.” That also proves that Leslie might get hurt while crossing Terabithia. In chapter eight, it describes May Belle asking, “What happens if you die?” That definitely proves Leslie might die. Also, in chapter nine, it was a cold, rainy day. There was gushing water everywhere. It was very slippery. Jess thought it would be very dangerous. It also states Leslie and him might get hurt trying to cross. In chapter ten, Ms. Edmunds invites Jess to go to the museum in Washington D.C. Jess feels guilty because he should’ve invited Leslie to the museum too. Those are all examples of Katherine Paterson foreshadowing Leslie’s death.

In chapter 1, a foreshadowing event was when the author said in the story was this was going to change Jess’s life, and when a new family went into the old Perkins place (house). In chapter 8, a second foreshadowing event was when May Belle said,’’ what if you die.’’ Another foreshadowing event was in chapter 9 when the creek was feeling up with rainfall water, and it, the creek, is now gushing with water. This foreshadowing event was in chapter 10 when it, the book, tells about a perfect day with Miss Edmunds, and he was thinking about Leslie the whole trip, and how he should’ve invite her with him, Jess, to Washington D.C with him.

Second, in chapter 8 May Belle says to Leslie ,”What happens if you die.” Third, in chapter 9 the rain that made the creek between the real world to Terabithia filled with water. Last, when jess goes on a trip with his music teacher Miss Edmunds thinking about Leslie.

In chapter 8: May Belle said,”What if you die Leslie,.” In chapter 9: it talks about the creek getting filled up but Leslie said,”I want to go to Terabithia.”

There are four examples of foreshadowing Leslie’s death in Bridge To Terabithia. The first example is in chapter one, when Maybelle told Jess that a new family was going to move in to the Old Perkin’s place, he thought in his mind that that was the most important thing that ever happened to him. Then in chapter eight, Leslie told Jess and Maybelle that she didn’t believe in the bible, Maybelle replied as, “what if you die Leslie, what if you die.” After that in chapter nine, it states that the creek (the small amount of water that was separating Terabithia and the real world) was filling in rapidly in the very harsh rain. Finally in chapter ten, when Jess went with Miss Edmunds to the Museum which he thought was the most perfect day of his life, he was thinking about inviting Leslie to go with them, but Jess was to greedy, so while he was on the trip, that was when Leslie had died. Those were the four foreshadows in Bridge To Terabithia.

In the novel “Bridge to Terabithia”, forshadowing leslie’s death is very common. The forshadowing of Leslie’s death is common in five different chapters. First it forshaows Leslie’s death when Jess says the new family [Leslie’s family] moving into the Perkin‘s place is the biggest thing in his life. Second, it forshadows Leslie’s death when May Belle asks Leslie,”what’s going to happen if you die,Leslie?” Third, it forshadows Leslie’s death when the rain in the creek gets higher and higher, day by day. Fourth, it forshadows Leslie’s death when Jess went on the “Perfect Day” with the love of his life [Ms.Edmunds, his friday music teacher] to Washignton without Leslie, but still thinks about Leslie even though he is with Ms,Edmunds. Finally, in ” Bridge to Terabithia” it forshadows Leslie’s death when Jess’ mom was crying because she thought he was also dead, with Leslie.
