Photo Documentary

Definition of photojournalism: Photojournalism in which photography dominates written copy, as in certain magazines.

Difference between photograph and photojournalism: Photojournalism has a connection and has to do with magazines or newspapers and a photograph is the way people take their photos and/or how they take their photos.

The National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) was founded in 1947. The organization is based in Durham, North Carolina and is mostly made up of still photographers, television videographers, editors, and students in the journalism field.

NPPA code of ethics: Presents the National press Photographers Association’s principles and standards of practice.

Why the media needs ethics: The media needs ethics because they deal with an institution that must do things that ordinary people would not do.

 

Pop Art Research

Pop Art is a modern art movement, started in the 1950s, which uses the imagery, styles, and themes of advertising, mass media, and popular culture. Richard Hamilton, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol are among the best known Pop artists.

Composition Tips

Rule of Thirds: Best way to do rule of thirds is to have the object you take a picture of intersect with the vertical and horizontal lines.

Balancing Elements: Some pictures look better when the object is not in the center!

Leading Lines: You can lead a person through lines in your photo to make them more interested in it.

Symmetry and Patterns: If you use both symmetry and pattern in your picture, it can make the composition look better and the way they are set.

Viewpoint: The view of your picture makes a great difference of whether its good or great!

Background: The background of your picture determines how good of a picture it is.

Depth: The depth of your picture makes it look a lot better because of the medium and ground background.

Framing: The subject of the picture should be alone by itself, so trees and holes are great for the edges of the composition.

Cropping: When you crop an image you take out the background “noise” which makes it easier to focus on the subject.

Experimentation: You have to experiment your shots to see which ones came out good, and it will make the picture stand out in the open. You’ll never know until you try!

9) 95 percent of all college campus violence is alchohol related.

10) More than 40 percent of all college students with academic problems are alchohol users.
