Fluency Goals
1st trimester: 90 wcpm
2nd trimester: 120 wcpm
3rd trimester:  140 wcpm

The goal is for students to read fluently, expressively, accurately, and smoothly. The goal is not for students to read as fast as they can just to reach the fluency goal number, but to also understand what they have read. Fluency scores will be entered into their language arts grade as a quiz.

Reading Counts Goals
1st trimester: 30 points
2nd trimester: 40 points (should have a total of 70 points)
3rd trimester: 50 points (should have a total of 120 points)
***Please note that the points required for each trimester have changed in order to get students prepared to achieve 50 points each trimester, beginning in 5th grade.

Reading Counts points will be factored into their language arts grade as a quiz. Students have 3 opportunities to pass their quizzes on their books. They must complete a summary log before taking any tests. Lexile Scale Goals
1st trimester: 520-820
2nd trimester: 660-860
3rd trimester: 740-940

If your child is within the lexile scale range for each trimester, they are at grade level.  Lexile tests will be given at the end of each trimester.
