Contest
October 3rd-9th  Book Drive
In celebration of Stone Lake’s 20th year, the 20th anniversary committee is building a Little Free Library to place in front of the school. As part of the Book Fair this year, we will be holding a Book Drive seeking donations of new and gently-used books to fill our Little Free Library and to benefit the Love, Talk, Read Foundation and their mission to provide all kids with access to books.

The Book Drive will take place during the week of the Book Fair, October 3rd-9th. The primary (K-3) and intermediate (4-6) classroom with the most donated books will win pizza; and the winning teachers will receive a $75 shopping spree at the Book Fair!

The NEHS students will deliver collection boxes for the book drive to your classrooms on September 30th.

This year we will be closing the fair in conjunction with the Fall Festival.  We will be open from 5pm-8pm on Friday the 11th.  Please encourage students to come by and visit the fair that night to enter a drawing for a $75 shopping spree.  (1 winner K-3 and 1 winner 4-6)  Contest is only for those that visit the fair on Friday the 11th.  You MUST BE PRESENT to win!

We need a lot of volunteers to help us make the fair a huge success.  Please pass along our volunteer sign-up information, if you can.  Thanks!!

Back to School Night

It was wonderful meeting all of you last night at Back to School Night.  I am excited to be working with all of you and know that we are going to have a great year together.  Please make sure to return all paperwork into the purple Friday Folders, including the yellow reflection sheet, before Friday.  Also, if you haven’t submitted your Parent Letter via email, please do so.  I’ve enjoyed reading the letters that I have received.  As always, if you have any questions, please let me know.

Welcome Parents

It is with great pleasure that I welcome your child to fourth grade. We can all look forward to a very exciting and rewarding school year that will be filled with excitement, fun, and learning. I believe that learning can be an enjoyable journey, where in the end, we can all grow and develop a true love of wisdom, discover our strengths and weaknesses, and strive for excellence.

A child’s education is greatly enhanced when there is a partnership between students, teachers, and parents. I value open communication between home and school, as this is essential to help your child have a successful fourth grade year. Please do not let too much time pass before expressing your concerns or frustrations about an issue as I cannot help with a situation if I do not know what is going on. Miscommunications and animosity occur when an issue is not addressed immediately. You are free to contact me through notes, phone calls, or email. I’ll be glad to set up an appointment either in person or by phone. Feel free to visit our room at any time, but please let me know in advance if you are planning a visit so that if you wish to assist us, materials will be ready for you.

My goal is to always provide a positive and consistent atmosphere in my classroom. I have the same expectations for all of my students, which is, I expect them to do their best, complete their work (classwork and homework), and learn how to be responsible for their own actions and behaviors. I believe that by working together, we can achieve these goals.

Hello Incoming 2019-2020 4th Graders

Greetings!  I hope that all of you will have a wonderful break with your children and that you get to spend some quality time with them before we start back on Monday, August 19th.  School supplies will be on sale once the year round schools begin in July, so I thought I’d send out the supply list for this year. A hard copy will be sent in your child’s report card envelope from Mrs. Stovall, so hopefully you’ll be able to purchase the necessary supplies.

Your child should bring the following supplies to school each day:
* a sturdy 1  to 1 1/2 inch binder (no larger)
*5 subject dividers labeled with the following: math,  reading, writing/language, science, social studies
*binder paper (supply to be kept both in their binder and at home – they do not need to bring the whole package in their binder)
* three 1-subject college ruled spiral notebooks (see photo below) — one for math (blue),  one for language arts (red), and one for science/social studies (yellow).  You can find them at Walmart, Target, Staples, or Office Depot for less than $1.00.  Please make sure that they are labeled with their names and the subject.

*Crayola twistables (label with their name – please do not send a pack larger than 18)
*colored markers (label with their name)
*black sharpie pen
*dry-erase markers (not yellow)
*post-it notes (regular size, but the small ones are great too)
*4 stretchy book covers (or students can bring books home and put on the basic grocery sack book covers which work just as well)
*Ear buds or small head phones (to be used in class with Chromebooks)

If your child insists on getting a pencil box, it must be able to fit inside their desk.  With the Wonders reading & new social studies programs, there is not much room left in their desk for other items. I would recommend a pencil pouch. I hope this helps your child get a head start on an exciting new school year.  I look forward to meeting them on the first day of school which is Monday, August 19th.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at anicolas@egusd.net.  I’ll be checking my email periodically.

I hope that all of you enjoy your summer and I can’t wait to meet all of you.
